HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-06-19 VAC Minutes i MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE VETERANS ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA June 19, 2019 6:00 pm A Regular Meeting of the Veterans Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 6:00 pm in the Chula Vista Police Department, located at 315 Fourth Ave, Chula Vista, California. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Commissioners Balolong , Larkin, Mueller, Wynne, Bartlett, Vice Chair Sears and Chair Torres ABSENT: None ALSO, PRESENT: Capt. Thunberg and SRO Secretary Claudia Bravo CONSENT CALENDAR 1. Approval of Minutes from May 15, 2019 ACTION: Commissioner Larkin moved to approve the minutes from May 15, 2019 as written. Commissioner Wynne seconded the motion, and it passed by the following vote: Yes: 7- Balolong, Mueller, Bartlett, Vice Chairs Sears and Chair Torres. No: 0 Public Comments: None ACTION ITEMS 2. Commissioners Mueller and Bartlett absence from April meeting: Commissioner Sears moved to approve commissioner Mueller and Bartlett's absence from April meeting. Seconded by Chair Torres and it carried by the following vote: Yes—3 - Balolong, Larkin, and Wynne No - 0 Page 1 I Veterans Advisory Commission Minutes June 19,2019 3. Commissioners Bartlett and Wynne absence from May meeting: Vice Chair Sears moved to approve commissioner Wynne and Bartlett's absence from April meeting. Seconded by Chair Torres and it carried by the following vote: Yes—3 - Balolong, Larkin, and Mueller No - 0 4. Veterans Activity Report: Vice Chair Sears provided additional information to upcoming events and services for veterans. 5. City Website Update: Commissioner Larkin provided a list of resources used for the Southwestern College Veterans Website. Commissioner Larkin will forward a resource link to Chair Sears to add to the Veterans Activity Report. Staff Comments: Capt. Thunberg stated the banners went up appropriately and will be going on moving forward. Chair Comments: Chair Torres discussed the possibility of expanding the number of banners. Chair Torres will reach out to Tony Stewart on the matter. Commissioners' Comments: Commissioner Balolong invited the committee to a picnic July 10, 1100-1500 at Mariners Park sponsored by Military Officers Association of America. Commissioner Bartlett discussed the Veterans Mural for the new VA Center and Health Clinic. Councilperson Galvez, Librarian Whatley and Developer Kevin O'Neil invited the committee to a meeting on July 81h, 9:00 am at the Chula Vista Public Library, 365 F St. CV to give input on the Mural. Commissioners discussed having a Special Meeting in August at Southwestern College, 900 Otay Lakes Rd, CV 91910.
