Report
Dear Mayor Casillas Salas and City Council,
Thank you for your ongoing and important leadership role in addressing the climate crisis in Chula Vista,
especially moving our city forward to a 100% clean energy future.
South Bay People Power urges you to vote YES to accept the Feasibility Study of Community Choice
Aggregation at the City Council meeting on July 23, 2019.
South Bay People Power is a non-partisan, proactive group of residents of San Diego County who live near the
US-Mexico international border. We are dedicated to promote policies and practices that reflect the values of
justice, fairness and civil rights and to encourage civic engagement among all members of our diverse
community. We see finding equitable and sustainable solutions to long-term energy needs of our region to be
an urgent climate and environmental justice issue.
The 2017 Chula Vista Climate Action Plan commits to 100% Clean Energy by 2035, and the necessary
beginning steps to achieving that goal have been taken. The Sustainability Commission has heard the
Feasibility Study of CCA Report and has accepted the Report. They, along with the Chula Vista Sustainability
Department, recommend that the City Council accept the report.
The Feasibility Study findings detail the economic and environmental benefits that Chula Vista residents and
businesses will have with CCA electricity procurement. The Study also analyzes possible risks. Finally, the
options for program structure, or governance, are outlined in the study. The Feasibility Study contains the
relevant information that we need to design an energy procurement program in Chula Vista that meets our
goal of 100% Clean Energy by 2035.
We look forward to continuing to partner with you in creating a stronger, more resilient clean energy future in
Chula Vista.
Sincerely yours,
1
