HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-04-17 VAC Minutes i i MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE VETERANS ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA April 17, 2019 6:00 pm A Regular Meeting of the Veterans Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 6:12 pm in the Chula Vista Police Department, located at 315 Fourth Ave, Chula Vista, California. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Vice Chair Sears and Commissioners Wynne, Balolong and Larkin ABSENT: Chair Torres, Commissioners Mueller and Bartlett ALSO, PRESENT: Capt. Thunberg and SRO Secretary Claudia Bravo CONSENT CALENDAR 1. Approval of Minutes of March 20, 2019 ACTION: Vice Chair Sears moved to approve the minutes from March 20, 2019 as written. Commissioner Wynne seconded the motion, and it passed by the following vote: Yes: Larkin and Balolong No: 0 Public Comments: None ACTION ITEM 2. VOY INFORMATION a. Commissioner Balolong has not received a response from the San Diego Veterans Museum, on the timeline and a point of contact for Veteran of the Year. San Diego Veterans Museum is the host for the county. Recommendation: Vice Chair would like the commission to focus on the Veteran of Year process for the City of Chula Vista. Page 1 I Veterans Advisory Commission Minutes April 17,2019 STAFF PRESENTATIONS 3. CITY WEBSITE UPDATE a. Vice Chair Sears will make a list and Commissioner Larkin will bring a page of resources to next meeting. Once the list is accurate Capt. Thunberg will give the list to the cities webmaster to put under the Veterans Link. 4. FALLEN HEROES BANNERS b. Capt. Thunberg reached out to Councilwomen Galvez and the topic was brought up during the last council meeting. Mayor Salas recommended contacting Third Avenue Village Association and Councilmember McCann agreed. Vice Chair Sears will contact Randy Bellamy from the Third Avenue Village Association. Staff Comments: Capt. Thunberg reminded commissioners that there is no issue to attend the Chula Vista Veterans Home board meetings as a member of the VAC. However, only two can attend, no voting, and it is solely for informational purposes. Chair Comments: None Commissioners' Comments: The commission asked to put a standing Agenda Item starting in May. The standing Agenda Item is to discuss Special Meetings and the possibility of changing the Regular Meeting to a different location.
