HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-03-20 BOLT MINSPUBLIC LIBRARY CHULA VISTA MARCH 20, 2019 4:00 PM BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: CITY STAFF PRESENT: PUBLIC PRESENT: CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL MINUTES BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES CITY OF CHULA VISTA CIVIC CENTER BRANCH LIBRARY 365 F STREET, CHULA VISTA, CA 91910 CHAIR MAYRA SWANSON, VICE -CHAIR MARYANN HERNANDEZ, TRUSTEE ROSELLE ELLISON, , AND TRUSTEE DANA TOMLINSON TRUSTEE CHRISTIAN MORENO CITY LIBRARIAN, JOY WHATLEY, MANAGEMENT ANALYST, YEELIN CHEUNG, AND PRINCIPAL LIBRARIAN, ERWIN MAGBANUA .LOAN RINCON Vice -Chair Hernandez called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion made by Vice -Chair Hernandez and seconded by Trustee Tomlinson to approve the meeting minutes of February 20, 2019. Motion carried (3-0). (Chair Swanson arrived at 4:54 p.m.) APPROVAL OF ABSENCE(S) — N/A III. NEw BUSINESS - None IV. OLD BUSINESS — None V. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT A. Friendship Park Deck project has been cleared by the Fire Department for permitting. Request for bids should be going out in about 2-3 weeks. City Librarian Whatley stated that she would like to see a story walk from the deck to the park. B. Roofing project should be completed in another week. C. Solar panel installation is completed; contractor need to connect to SDG&E grid. D. Library staff will be meeting with Public Works to discuss Measure P projects. Deferred maintenance and infrastructure projects are proposed for the Civic Center Branch and the South Branch. E. The Library Events Calendar has been redesigned to a quarterly format. MINUTES BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES F. New Principal Librarian will be joining the department in late April. This position will oversee the administration of the South Branch and Otay Ranch Branch. G. Two public art pieces (Chromosol Trees) will be relocated from Third Avenue to the corner of Fourth Avenue & F Street (in front of the Library.) H. The Civic Center Friends will be hosting a book sale on April 5-7, 2019. The Library will be launching the Zipbooks project. The grant funded program will allow patrons to request books not in our collection or in a different format (large print and/or audio.) Library will order item on Amazon, ship it directly to patron, and the patron will return to the Library at the end of the loan period. The new item will then be added to our collection for future use. VI. COMMUNICATIONS A. Friends of the Chula Vista Library - None B. Chula Vista Public Library Foundation 1) Trustee Ellison reported that the Foundation is exploring the option of online bidding for the City donated concert tickets. The CVPLF will not host their annual fundraising event this year. C. Public Comments 1) Joan Rincon stated that she was there to observe the Board meeting to bring ideas back to the National City Public Library. D. Written Comments — None E. Board Comments 1) Trustee Tomlinson commented on the lack of parking signage at Civic Center Branch. City Librarian Whatley stated that some signs were removed due to the recent construction projects. Staff is working with Public Works, Traffic Engineering and the Police Department to post new signs and begin regulation. VII. ADJOURNMENT Chair Swanson adjourned the meeting at 5:01 p.m. The next Board of Library Trustees meeting will be on April 17, 2019, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Branch Library. 2
