HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2019-045RESOLUTION NO. 2019-045 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING GRANT FUNDS FROM THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION HABITAT CONSERVATION FUND PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000; APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH LIVING COAST DISCOVERY CENTER TO PROVIDE A COMMUNITY PROGRAM TO ENCOURAGE URBAN FAMILIES TO HIKE, EXPLORE, AND PROTECT LOCAL HABITATS AND WILDLIFE; AND APPROPRIATING THE FUNDS ACCORDINGLY WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista was awarded a Habitat Conservation Fund Program Grant, Wildlife Area Activities, from the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation Office of Grants and Local Services in the amount of $100,000; and WHEREAS, the funding will be used to create a community program to encourage urban families to hike, explore, and protect local habitats and wildlife; and WHEREAS, the City would like to enter into an agreement with the Living Coast Discovery Center to create a community program to encourage urban families to hike, explore, and protect local habitats and wildlife and waive the consultant selection process in Chapter 2.56 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code, based on the Living Coast Discovery Center’s unique qualifications to provide educational opportunities and wildlife conservation expertise, including being identified as the City’s partner in the application; and WHEREAS, the program, HELP (Hike, Explore, Learn, Protect) Chula Vista will conduct 120 interpretive hike programs and 48 community clean-up projects and serve up to 4,200 people (approximately 500 different families) from underserved communities over four years; and WHEREAS, accordingly, grant funds will be appropriated to the State Grant Fund budget. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that it hereby accepts $100,000 in grant funds; appropriates said funds to the State Grant Fund budget; and approves the agreement with the Living Coast Discovery Center, in the form presented with such minor modifications as the City Attorney may require or approve, and directs and authorizes the City Manager to execute the agreement.
