Chair Swanson called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Vice -Chair Hernandez and seconded by Trustee Moreno to approve
the meeting minutes of January 16, 2019. Motion carried (5-0).
II. APPROVAL OF ABSENCE(S) — N/A
III. NEW BUSINESS
A. Trustee Tomlinson give a brief self -introduction to the Board. Chair Swanson
welcomed Trustee Tomlinson and thanked her for joining the Board of Library
Trustees.
IV. OLD BUSINESS — None
V. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
A. Library staff is working with City's conservation office and SDG&E representatives to
install a mural and interactive display outside of the Energy Station at the South
Branch.
B. Natalie Vega, Library Associate at the Otay Ranch Branch was named the
Department of State's "Passport Agent of the Year."
C. CVPL is partnering with the San Diego Museum Council for Museum month.
Passes are good for half-price general admission for up to four people and can be
used at more than 40 museums.

BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
D. Library is celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 17-22). All
branches will have activities, crafts and more that spark kindness and spread
compassion.
E. The Friendship Park Deck is still progressing as planned. The deck will be
approximately 5,000 square feet.
F. Staff shared post program surveys with the Board, highlighting how the Library is
making a difference in the community.
G. Library management team is working with staff to create a new Mission Statement
for the department.
VI. COMMUNICATIONS
A. Friends of the Chula Vista Library - None
B. Chula Vista Public Library Foundation
1 } Trustee Ellison stated that she attended the last CVPL Foundation meeting.
The Foundation will not host the annual Bon Appetit event this year. The
group is working on rebranding and exploring other fundraising ideas.

E. Board Comments
1) Chair Swanson stated while she was attending the Energy Station grand
opening event that she noticed the poor condition of the carpet and files at
the South Branch. She inquired whether Measure P funds will cover the cost
of repair.
City Librarian Whatley replied that the City is aware of the condition of the
flooring and replacement/repair will be included as part of the Measure P
renovations.
2) Trustee Moreno acknowledged the great work the Library social media team
is doing.
VII. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Swanson adjourned the meeting at 4:39 p.m.
The next Board of Library Trustees meeting will be on March 20, 2019, beginning at
4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Branch Library.
