HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-02-20 VAC Minutes i MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE VETERANS ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA February 20,2019 6:00 pm A Regular Meeting of the Veterans Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 6:07 pm in the Chula Vista Police Department, located at 315 Fourth Ave, Chula Vista, California. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Chair Torres, Vice Chair Sears and Commissioners Wynne, Balolong and Larkin ABSENT: Commissioner Mueller and newly appointed Commissioner Bartlett ALSO, PRESENT: Capt. Thunberg and SRO Secretary Claudia Bravo 1. Approval of Minutes ACTION: Vice Chair Sears moved to approve minutes from January 16, 2019 as written. Commissioner Wynne seconded motion and it carried by the following vote: Yes: Torres, Larkin and Balolong Public Comments: None ACTION ITEM a. VOY Bio and Information: Commissioner Balolong presented a revised draft on the timeline and procedures for the 2019 Veteran of the Year nominee. Information needed on how to submit the nominee for the County Veteran of the Year. Recommendation: Vice Chair Sears will contact Tony Stewart regarding County Veteran of the Year. Commissioner Balolong will revise timeline once the information is received on how to submit the Chula Vista Veteran of the Year to County of San Diego. Page 1 Veterans Advisory Commission Minutes February 20,2019 b. Commissioner Larkin absence from January meeting: Commissioner Wynne moved to approve Commissioner Larkin absence from January meeting. Seconded by Chair Torres and it carried by the following vote: Yes: Balolong and Sears c. Veterans Activities Report: Vice Chair Sears still working on report and getting a list of contacts for veterans. d. Resolution of the Veterans Advisory Commission changing the location of regular meetings: Veterans Advisory Commission established the Community Conference Room, located at the Chula Vista Police Department, 315 4th Ave, Chula Vista, CA as the location to hold its regular meetings. The commission wishes to change its meeting location go the Administrative Conference Room, 2nd Floor, located at the Chula Vista Police Department. 315 4th Ave, Chula Vista, California. AYES: Torres, Sears, Wynne, Balolong and Larkin NAYS: None ABSENT: Mueller and Bartlett Staff Comments: Capt. Thunberg will reach out to Supervisor Cox for guidance and information on Chula Vista Veteran of the Year 2019 submission to the County of San Diego. Capt. Thunberg spoke to city manager and staff to have the banners put up on Memorial Day on 3rd Avenue in Chula Vista. Capt. Thunberg will contact Councilmember McCann to have the banners put up a week before Memorial Day and taken down a week after Memorial Day. Also, the possibility of rotating the banners depending on the district. Chair's Comments: Discussed the possibility of changing the location of the regular meetings. 'a Bravo, Secretary Page 2 1 Veterans Advisory Commission Minutes February 20, 2019 RESOLUTION NO. 2019-01 RESOLUTION OF THE VETERANS ADVISORY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA CHANGING THE LOCATION OF REGULAR MEETINGS WHEREAS, Veterans Advisory Commission Resolution No. 2017-01 establishes the Community Conference Room, located at the Chula Vista Police Department, 315 4th Avenue, Chula Vista, California, as the location to hold its regular meetings; and WHEREAS, Municipal Code § 2.25.200 provides for a change in meeting location upon adoption by the board/commission a written resolution, which adoption shall be recorded in the minutes of the board/commission and a copy of which resolution shall be forwarded to the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Veterans Advisory Commission wishes to change its meeting location to the Administration Conference Room, 2 Floor, located at the Chula Vista Police Department, 3154 th Avenue, Chula Vista, California. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Veterans Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista, pursuant to Municipal Code § 2.25.200, does hereby change the location of its regular meetings to the Administration Conference Room, 2nd Floor, located at the Chula Vista Police Department, 315 4th Avenue, Chula Vista, California.
