HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2019-035RESOLUTION NO. 2019-035 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROVING AN AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AND THE HARTFORD, TO PROVIDE SHORT-TERM AND LONG- TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE FOR BENEFITED EMPLOYEES AND ELECTED OFFICIALS, EXCLUDING: EMPLOYEES REPRESENTED BY THE POLICE OFFICER’S ASSOCIATION (POA), INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIREFIGHTERS (IAFF), AND TEMPORARY AND SEASONAL EMPLOYEES WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista provides short-term and long-term disability benefits to eligible employees; and WHEREAS, to ensure the City procures the most competitively priced coverage and services for its employees, a request for proposal to provide short -term and long-term disability benefits to eligible City of Chula Vista employees was issued in July 2018; and WHEREAS, Barney & Barney, a Marsh & McLennan Insurance Agency LLC, the City’s broker of record, issued the request for proposal (“RFP”) and presented its recommendation to the benefits committee comprising of representatives from all labor groups; and WHEREAS, The Hartford is a current employee benefits carrier partner of the City of Chula Vista, providing the City’s Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance as well as other voluntary insurance coverage (“Coverages”); and WHEREAS, The Hartford was selected to provide short-term and long-term disability benefits and will do so via an amendment (“Amendment”), a copy of which is on file in the City Clerk’s Office, to the agreement (Agreement) between the City and The Hartford to provide Coverages to the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that it approves an Amendment to the Agreement between the City of Chula Vista and The Hartford so that The Hartford may provide short-term and long-term disability benefits to eligible City of Chula Vista employees (excluding employees represented by CVPOA and IAFF, in that they maintain their own plans) in the form presented, with such minor modifications as may be required or approved by the City Attorney, and it further authorizes and directs the Mayor to execute same.
