RE: item 2—Support for Bonita Glen Apartments Project
The Pacific Southwest Association of REALTORS'supports the Chula Vista Planning
Commission's approval of the Bonita Glen Apartments project which will provide 170 units of
middle-incomeapartments forworking class families in ChulaVista.
Our Association has reviewed the project plans and are impressed with the range of unit sizes
from studios to one-and two-bedroom units.
We understand that the 5.3-acre site isdesignatedas commercial-retail underthe Chula Vista
General Plan, and is located within and regulated by the Bonita Glen Specific Plan. The project will
provideadequate on-siteparking for residentsand visitors, per findingsof multiple parking
studies.
With the need for more housing in the region, SANDAG projects our natural demographicgrowth
will add one million people by205O, underscoring the need for more housing stock. Moderately i
priced housing projects, like Bonita Glen, support the local workforce and Bonita Glen Apartments
will include nine affordable housing units for low and very low income residents.
The projectcomplementsthesurrounding neighborhood and transforms an emptyand neglected
lot into an attractive addition to the community. Based on public input, at two public engagement
events, the developer(Silvergate)has agreed to include a privately maintained park andtralls that
will be open to the public.Silvergate has also committed to building a sidewalk and adding
improved lighting along Bonita Glen Road.
It is for these reasons; we seek your support of the project and urge you to approve the Bonita
Glen Apartment project permit application.
