OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
January 16, 2019

A Special Meeting of the Veterans Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called
to order at 6:04 pm in the Chula Vista Police Department, located at 315 Fourth Ave, Chula
Vista, California.
ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Chair Torres, Vice Chair Sears and Commissioners Wynne,
Balolong and Mueller
ABSENT: Commissioner Larkin
ALSO, PRESENT: SRO Secretary Claudia Bravo
1. Approval of Minutes
ACTION: Commissioner Sears moved to approve minutes from October 17, 2018 as written.
Commissioner Wynne seconded motion and it carried by the following vote:
Yes: Mueller, Torres and Balolong
Public Comments:
Guest: Cassandra Johnson I Member of the public- Interested in joining the VAC and to get
more information about the commission.
ACTION ITEM
a. VOY Bio and Information: Commissioner Balolong presented a rough draft for
review of the procedures and timeline for the 2019 nominee. Commissioner
Balolong will revise procedures and timeline.
Recommendation: Commissioner Wynne to create a flyer with information on
the VOY 2019 with the city link.
b. Commissioners Wynne and Mueller's absence from October meeting:
Vice Chair Sears moved to approve Commissioners Wynne and Mueller absence
from October meeting. Seconded by Chair Torres and it carried by the following
vote:
Yes: Balolong

c. Veterans Activities Report: Chair Torres presented an example of previous
reports done in the past and recommended implementing the report again. Vice
Chair Sears to take the lead and table item for next month.
Recommendation: Commissioner Mueller recommended that each commissioner
take one organization and reach out to get all the information needed for the
activities report.
d. Other Business: Chair Torres received an email from John Figone (Cresco
California) interested on how the company can connect and serve veterans. Chair
Torres will respond with the information listed on the VAC website.
Staff Comments:
Capt. Thunberg to provide an update on the VOY and Memorial Banners. Table topic for next
month.
Chair's Comments: Chair Torres would like the commissioners to come up with new topics and
ideas for discussion.
Commissioners' Comments: Commissioner Wynne suggested to reach out to organizations on
how to help veterans. Commissioner Mueller asked to have a social once a quarter and invite the
community. Commissioner Mueller indicated that the VA and Disability Claims just released
new changes for women's health.
ADJOURNMENT At 7:03 pm Chair Torres adjourned the to the next on February 20,
