. Chair Swanson called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.

III. NEW BUSINESS
A. Introduction of New Trustee, Roselle Ellison
Trustee Ellison provided a brief self-introduction.
B. Joint Meeting with Friends of Chula Vista Public Library Executive Board and the
Chula Vista Public Library Foundation
Chair Swanson welcomed everyone to the 3rd joint meeting of the Trustees, Friends
and Foundation. The chairperson from each group provided a brief introduction of
the group.

Chair Swanson stated that the Board of Library Trustees is an advisory board to the
City Council.
Shauna Stokes informed the Board that there are four chapters of the Friends of the
Chula Vista Library: Civic, South, Otay, and Museum. The Friends run the book
store at each branch. All proceeds go to support Library programs.
Carmen Richardson informed the Board the Foundation raises funds to support
capital improvements and purchases for the facilities. The Foundation was
instrumental in providing funds to open the Otay Ranch Branch Library and The
Hub.
Chair Swanson asked the Friends and Foundation to please share information
regarding the support and activities of the groups. She stated that each
Councilmember has a newsletter and she should share the information with them.
IV. OLD BUSINESS-N/A
V. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
A. Energy Station grand opening is scheduled for January 23, 2019. The Energy
Station is a partnership with the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD),
San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
(IBEW) and National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).
All 6th grade students in the CVESD will have a two-day experience; Day 1 at the
Innovation Station and Day 2 at the Energy Station.
B. Community Services staff is continuing to work on the Library Grand Terrace. The
4,125 sq. ft. deck will extend from the Library to Friendship Park. We will be able to
show movies, organize intergenerational programs and other City events.
C. Measure P (Sales tax for repairing and maintaining infrastructure)
South CV Library projects will include flooring, lighting, HVAC, and solar panels in
parking lot.
Civic Center Library projects will include LED lighting, solar panels, HVAC, flooring,
roofing, stucco, and electrical.
D. Children's Room at Civic Center—The concepts/design from the Maximizing
Learning Spaces grant will be incorporated in the Measure P improvements.
E. Virtual Reality Lab— Library received State grant to purchase equipment for Civic
and South libraries.

VI. COMMUNICATION
A. Friends of the Chula Vista Library
Shauna Stokes informed the Board the they will be donating $20,000 to the book
budget and the City has agreed to match it with another$20,000.
The Friends are always looking for new members and volunteers to support the
book stores & book sales. The book sales generate approximately $15,000
annually.
B. Chula Vista Public Library Foundation
Carmen Richardson informed the Board that the Foundation will not have the Bon
Appetit fundraiser next year. The Foundation is working on rebranding the group
and will be working on new fundraising effort(s).

VII. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Swanson adjourned the meeting at 3:10 p.m.
The next Board of Library Trustees meeting will be on Wednesday, October 17, 2018,
beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Branch Library.
