The US Green Building Council has
recently released initial Residential Green
Building Standards. LEED Standards
had previously been focused more on
commercial building types.

The US Green Building Council's LEED
Standards are relevant for an array of
Municipal Building Types. The City of
Chula Vista is already requiring LEED
Silver on City-Supported buildings in the
Urban Core Specific Plan area.
Municipal planning and building officials
are most familiar with Title-24 Standards.
Green building codes based on Title 24
would likely be easiest to implement.
The US Green Building Council's LEED
Standards offer point-based rating
system for a variety of building types.
Depending on the number of points
attained, buildings can be certified as
"Gold, Silver" etc. To avoid certification
fees, most Cities require buildings to
complete the "checklist" or to be
"certifiable" rather than "certified."
California's Title 24 Building Standards
are among the most stringent energy
standards in the world. Because the
standards are continuously updated,
requiring buildings to be % more efficient
than Title 24 ensures that Green Building
codes keep pace with innovations in
energy efficiency.
CCR Title 24 standards have traditionally
been less stringent in the residential
sector than in the commercial sector.
