Gray, Maynard, and Penunuri.
CONSENT CALENDAR
The Board/Commission will enact the Consent Calendar staff recommendations by one
motion, without discussion, unless a Board/Commission Member, a member of the public,
or staff requests that an item be removed for discussion. If you wish to speak on one of
these items, please fill out a "Request to Speak" form and submit it to the Secretary prior
to the meeting. Items pulled from the Consent Calendar will be discussed immediately
following the Consent Calendar.

PUBLIC COMMENTS
Persons speaking during Public Comments may address the Board/Commission on any
subject matter within the Board/Commission's jurisdiction that is not listed as an item on
the agenda. State law generally prohibits the Board/Commission from discussing or
taking action on any issue not included on the agenda, but, if appropriate, the
Board/Commission may schedule the topic for future discussion or refer the matter to
staff. Comments are limited to three minutes.

PRESENT: Chair Cazares; Vice Chair Rodriguez (Arrived 6:48pm); Commissioners; Daniels,
Delgado, Gray, Gore, Maynard, Penunuri, and Sywyj.

A motion was paid by Commissioner Daniels, seconded by Commissioner Gore. The
motion passed unanimously.

ACTION ITEMS:
3. Selection of FY 19 Chair and Vice Chair
Recommendation: That the Cultural Arts Commission select a Chair and Vice Chair
for next fiscal year (July 1, 2018 to June 30th, 2019)
Commissioner Sywyj nominated Commissioner Daniels as Chair and Commissioner
Rodriguez as Vice Chair, Commissioner Penunuri seconded the motion and the motion
unanimously passed.

4. Upcoming Events
Ms. Tessitore stated that Cultural Arts is working on bringing a variety of different
programming and events to Chula Vista. In addition, the upcoming year's PVAG
projects will be a primary focus for staff in strengthening and growing Arts and Culture
throughout the community. She then reviewed some upcoming events that staff is
developing and/or working on.
a. Village Summer Nights
Staff provided flyers and upcoming dates.
b. Boards and Commissions Recognition Event — July 12th
Ms. Tessitore reminded the Commission of the event and shared that this year it
would be a different format than in previous years. She asked that the
Commissioners RSVP at their earliest convenience.
c. Peace Train — July 21
Ms. Tessitore provided information on Cultural Arts Chula Vista's collaboration with
Peace Train. This is a momentous opportunity for Chula Vista on both the binational and
international scale.
d. LIT on Third — August 7th
Ms. Tessitore stated that they are working to bring LIT on Third to Village Summer
Nights. Ms. Fernandez is coordinating the efforts and staff will send out info once
finalized.
e. Harborfest — August 18th
This year's event is anticipated to be even bigger and better than previous year's.
Cultural Arts staff will be working on curating the THIS is CHULA community stage and
Art in the Park. Staff asked for volunteers to assist with the event.
f. Multi -Cultural Fest — October 13th/i4th
Ms. Tessitore stated that Cultural Arts is working with a few community organizers to
curate a multi -cultural event to be held in east Chula Vista area. She stated that staff is
approached often for a variety of different festivals and the concept of one multi -cultural

festival would assist with the lack of resources to do multiple festivals and over saturation
of events. The target dates are in October.
Canvases of Creativity Program
a. Mural Projects (Orange and Palomar and Bayshore Bikeway)
Ms Tessitore provided the Commission with an update on the pilot mural projects.
Ms. Tessitore applied for a County of San Diego Neighborhood Reinvestment
Grant for the Bayshore Bikeway project. She stated that Supervisor Cox is very
supportive and that she anticipates that the grant application will be approved by
the County Board of Supervisors at their June 19th meeting. Staff will be holding
a public meeting for the Orange and Palomar mural project in July or August.

Commissioner Delgado stated that SDYS Director Dalouge Smith is leaving the
organization to work with a national non-profit so they will be searching for a new CEO.
Commissioner Sywyj shared information on a Steph Johnson Jazz Quartet performance.
