INTRODUCTION OF HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSIONER RICARDO GUTIERREZ 2. PRESENTATION REGARDING THE ROLE AND FUNCTION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA POLICE DEPARTMENT’S COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE BY COMMITTEE CHAIR, NORMA CAZARES AND CHIEF OF POLICE ROXANNA KENNEDY WITH ADDITIONAL COMMENTS FROM CHIEF KENNEDY REGARDING CVPD EFFORTS TO ADVANCE CITY WELCOMING CITY OBJECTIVES CONSENT CALENDAR (Items 3-4) The Commission will enact the Consent Calendar staff recommendations by one motion, without discussion, unless a Commissioner, a member of the public, or staff requests that an item be removed for discussion. Items pulled from the Consent Calendar will be discussed immediately following the Consent Calendar. 3. CONSIDERATION OF REQUEST FOR EXCUSED ABSENCE E-mail from Vice-Chair Gonzalez requesting an excused absence from the August 23, 2018 regular Human Relations Commission meeting. Staff recommendation: Commission excuses the absence. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of August 23, 2018 Staff recommendation: Commission approves minutes. PUBLIC COMMENTS City of Chula Vista Boards & Commissions Human Relations Commission Persons speaking during Public Comments may address the Board/Commission on any subject matter within the Board/Commission’s jurisdiction that is not listed as an item on the agenda. State law generally prohibits the Board/Commission from discussing or taking action on any issue not included on the agenda, but, if appropriate, the Board/Commission may schedule the topic for future discussion or refer the matter to staff. Comments are limited to three minutes. ACTION ITEMS The Item(s) listed in this section of the agenda will be considered individually by the Board/Commission and are expected to elicit discussion and deliberation. If you wish to speak on any item, please fill out a “Request to Speak” form and submit it to the Secretary prior to the meeting 5. CONSIDER AND TAKE ACTION ON A PROPOSED RESOLUTION AND RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL TO OPPOSE DISCRIMINATORY POLICES THAT LIMIT IMMIGRATION ACCESS FROM SPECIFIED COUNTRIES Staff recommendation: Commission take such action(s) as it deems appropriate. 6. AD HOC COMMITTEE UPDATES, DISCUSSIONS AND POSSIBLE ACTIONS TO FURTHER IMPLEMENT CITY APPLICATION FOR CERTIFIED WELCOMING CITY STATUS Staff recommendation: Ad Hoc Committees provide updates and take appropriate actions to further and finalize City’s Welcoming City application. 7. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING CORRESPONDENCE FROM AMERICAN FRIENDS SERVICE COMMITTEE IN CONNECTION WITH INCIDENT AT SDG&E PARK ON AUGUST 15, 2018 Staff recommendation: Commission take such action(s) as it deems appropriate.
