Chair Mueller will be calling her to get some information. Mueller had already
spoken to the Mayor and sent out an email to each of the city council members
who were all in support of it. Sears and Wynne suggested getting the idea in early
before the development of the Bay Front. For now, they would just suggest a
name dedicating a park to Veterans and families. Main question is, how does the
commission go about this? Capt. Thunberg will assist in pointing the commission
in the right direction.
Recommendation: Capt. Thunberg will reach out to Kelly Broughton
(Development Services) or Eric Crockett (Economic Development) and report
back in June with an update.
c. Veteran Advisory Commission Vacancies: Commissioner Perez term ends next
month and will not run for re-election. Commissioner Stewart has submitted his
letter of resignation effective June 1, 2018. Effective June there will be three
vacancies. Sears indicated we need to recruit new members and get the word out.
Torres has been recruiting and is sending out the information to potential
members. Sears asked if it is possible for the city to put this information on the
city website?
Recommendation: Diane Howell oversees the community forum. Capt.
Thunberg will contact her.
d. Veteran of the Year: Nominees are due June 30, 2018, so now is the time to go
out and solicit for that. The meeting following the deadline commission decides.
Sears suggested the information go out on the Community Service Letter. Wynne
suggest a more proactive approach. Capt. Thunberg will ask Diane to include the
link and the deadline on the website. Torres will send a list to Sears and Sears will
email VFW and Service Organizations with information on Veteran of the Year.
Mueller would like to make flyers with the city logo. Perez suggested a photo and
bio be displayed on past Veteran of Year either on the website or in a frame at the
Library. Claudia will see on getting the VAC website updated to list previous
winners. Mueller would also like to create a commission Facebook or Instagram.
