Notice is hereby given that the Healthy Chula Vista Advisory Commission of the City of
Chula Vista has called and will convene a Special Meeting on Thursday, May 10,2018 at
Southwestern College Wellness and Aquatic Center, located at 900 Otay Lakes Road, Chula
Vista, California to consider the item(s) on this agenda.

Vice Chair Quiroz and Chair Cruz
CONSENT CALENDAR
The BoardlCominission will enact the Consent Calendar staff recommendations by one motion, without
discussion, unless a Board/Commission Member, a member of the public, or staff requests that an item be
removed for discussion. If you wish to speak on one oj'these items, please fill out a "Request to Speak"form
and submit it to the Secretary prior to the meeting. Items pulled from the Consent Calendar will be discussed
immediately following the Consent.Calendar.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM April 12,2018
Staff recommendation: Review Attachment I and approve minutes.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Persons speaking during Public Comments may address the Board/Commission on any subject matter within
the BoardIConitnission'sjiti-isdiction that is not listed as an item on the agenda. State law generally prohibits
the Board/Commission from discussing or taking action on any issue not included on the agenda, but, if
appropriate, the Board/Commission may schedule the topic for future discussion or refer the matter to staff.

2. TOUR AND DISCUSSION OF SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE WELLNESS AND AQUATIC
COMPLEX
Staff will provide a tour and discussion of services provided at the facility.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Commission hear the presentation.
3. SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE AGE-FRIENDLY INITIATIVES
Healthy Chula Vista staff will provide an overview of partnership opportunities with
Southwestern College surrounding student food and housing insecurity.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Commission hear the presentation and provide feedback to staff.
4. AGE-FRIENDLY WORKING SESSION FOR HEALTH CARE DOMAIN GOALS
Requested agenda item at April 12`x' meeting. Staff will provide recap of discussion surrounding
concerns for emergency room usage in the south bay and initiate discussion with commission
surrounding the linkage to Age-Friendly goals. Commission to develop a work plan surrounding
advocacy and education in the health care domain.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Commission discuss and provide feedback to staff.

HEALTHY CHULA VISTA ADVISORY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
April 12, 2018 3:30 P.M.
A Special Meeting of the Healthy Chula Vista Advisory Commission of the City of Chula Vista
was called to order at 3:39 p.m. at the Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista Well-Being Center,
located at 237 Church Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 91910
ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Commissioners Jimenez, Martinez, Melgoza, Milburn, Vice Chair
Quiroz and Chair Cruz
ABSENT: Commissioner de Murgia, Partida-Lopez and Velo
ALSO PRESENT: Stacey Kurz, Senior Project Coordinator
CONSENT CALENDAR
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM March 14, 2018
Motion by Commissioner Milburn to approve the minutes
Seconded by Commissioner Melgoza
Motion passed 6-0
PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
ACTION ITEMS
2. TOUR AND DISCUSSION OF SCRIPPS WELL BEING CENTER
Scripps staff Loran Quiroz provided a tour of the facility and Kendra Brandstein and Deb Me
Quillen provided a presentation of the programming provided through the Well Being Center.
3. PARKS AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN LETTER OF SUPPORT
Motion by Commissioner Milburn to approve the letter of support with one minor change to
the word "traditional".
Seconded by Commissioner Melgoza
Motion passed 6-0
4. SB 1151 NEIGHBORHOOD ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY LETTER
OF SUPPORT
Staff Kurz read into record Commissioner Partida-Lopez questions regarding the proposed bill
and staff s responses. Commissioners discussed the submittal of a letter of support.
Motion by Commissioner Martinez to approve the letter of support.
Seconded by Commissioner Jimenez
Motion passed 6-0
OTHER BUSINESS
5. STAFF COMMENTS
Staff Kurz provided updates on policy actions that were taken by the commission.
6. CHAIR'S COMMENTS
Chair Cruz provided an invitation to hold an upcoming meeting at the Sharp room mock up
warehouse. Additionally, she indicated that she could provide hospital tours for up to 15
people.
7. COMMISSIONERS'BOARD MEMBERS' COMMENTS
Commissioner Milburn announced that she had received a fellowship through America Walks.
Commissioner Melgoza expressed her continued concern for hospital capacity in the south bay
and commissioners discussed ways they could address this issue. Staff Kurz will place this
topic on the May agenda.
