HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-07-06 PC MINS i MINUTES OF A REGULAR 11EETING OF THE PLANNING COI.04ISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA Held Monday, July 16, 1951 The Planning Commission met in the Council Chamber at City Hall on the above date at 7:30 P.M. with the following Members present: Wulff, Poulter, Ramage, Stewart, Smith, Halferty. Absent: Member Drew. Also Present: City Attorney Boyer, City Engineer Floyd. Election of Chairman Pursuant to Charter provisions, the Commission proceeded to elect a Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr. Smith nominated Mr. Wulff as Chairman. There being no further nominations, it, was moved by Member Ramage, seconded by Member Stewart, and carried, that nominations be closed and that the Secretary be instructed to cast a unanimous ballot in favor of Mr. 'ifulff. Kinutes It was moved by Member Ramage, seconded by Member Stewart, and carried, that the minutes of the meeting held June 4, 1951, be approved, copies having been mailed to the members. Tentative. Map - Canasta Terrane - Harold Foster. It was moved by Member Halferty, seconded by Member Smith, and carried, that the map be accepted with the sewer being put down the back of the property and that a 20 ft. alley be required and paved. After a further discussion, Ifir. McClure, representing Harold Foster, inquired whether, in the event that his client felt that he could not afford the entire expense of paving the alley, it would be permissible to put the sewer in Otis Street. It was moved by Member Ramage, seconded by Member Smith, and carried, that the map be accepted, either with a paved alley and sewer in the alley, or without an alley and with the sewer installed in Otis Street. Extension of Guava Avenue - Fred C. Wilson Mr. Wilson appeared before the Planning Commission to request their approval of the extension of Guava Avenue south of Kenwood Village #2, to give access to building lots on his property. It was moved by Member Ramage, seconded by Member Poulter, and carried, that the street be dedicated as a street instead of an easement for the full 50 feet with a- turn-around having a 40 ft. radius. The Commission's attention was caped to the minutes of the City Council of July 10, 1951 on this subject. Zone Variances Mr. Leigh Robertson, 215 Madrona St., requested a rear yard setback of 16 feet to add to his dwelling which has an existing 16 foot rear yard setback. It was moved by Member Halferty, seconded by Member Stewart, and carried, that the variance be granted for the reasons stated in the application, provided a 9 foot side yard and existing rear yard of 16 feet is maintained. -2- Mr. A. L. Simas, 388 K St., requested a variance to face two lots, now facing on K St., on Fourth Ave. It was moved by Member Stewart, seconded by Member Smith, and carried, that the variance be granted for the reasons stated in the application, pro- vided the corner lot has 65 feet frontage and the inside lot 60 feet frontage. Mr. Linn E. Magoffin, 218 Kearney St., requested a variance to erect a patio arbor on his side property line. It was moved by Member Halferty, seconded by Member Poulter, and carried, that the variance be granted for the reasons stated in the application. Approval of Site for Church - Second Ave. between G St. and Alvarado St. Mr. J. D. Stark and Rev. W. A. Ross, representing the Christian Church, presented a formal request for approval. of the above location as a site for their church. It was moved by .Member Smith, seconded by Member Ramage, that the location be approved. The motion was carried by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Members Ramage, Stewart, Smith, Halferty, Wulff. NOES: Member Poulter. ABSENT: Member Drew. Tree Removals Mr. Charles R. Jantz, 547 F St., requested permission to remove one olive tree from the parking strip in front of his property. It was moved by Member Halferty, seconded by Member Smith, and carried, that the request be denied. Mr. Keith C. Leedy, 533 F St., requested permission to remove one olive tree from the parking strip in front of his property. It was moved by Member Stewart, seconded by Member Ramage, and carried, that the request be denied.
