HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-05-15 PC MINS MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PLANNING CO1J1MISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA Held Monday - May 15, 1950 The Planning Commission met on the above date at 7:30 P. M. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall. Present: Members Eckhart, Halferty, Drew, Wulff, Logan, Ramage, Poulter. City Engineer Gierlich and City Attorney Boyer. Absent: None. The members of the Planning Commission were sworn in by the City Clerk. It was moved by Member Logan, seconded by Member Drew, and carried, that Member Eckhart be nominated for the position of Chairman. It was moved by Member Poulter, seconded by Member Ramage, and carried, that nominations be closed, and that the secretary be instructed to cast an unanimous ballot for Mr. Eckhart. Thereupon, Member Eckhart was declared elected as Chairman and thereafter presided over the meeting. Zone Variance - Lloyd Lee - "E" Street between Del Mar Avenue and Twin Oaks Avenue. Mr. Lee requested a variance from the set-back ordinance along Twin Oaks Avenue and Del Mar Avenue to a minimum of nine feet instead of twenty feet. Mr. Lee stated that he felt in view of front yard requirements down the street, that a nine foot set-back is reasonable. Member Halferty stated that he had viewed the situation, and felt that the granting of the request would not create a hardship on the neigh- bors. Member Logan stated that he didn't see that it would hurt anything, but at the- same time, had they considered taking off two apartments? Chairman Eckhart ad- vised the Commission that he felt they could go ahead without hurting anybody. Mr. Wulff stated that he would recommend approving the variance in view of the fact that it is a request for a side yard rather than 'a front-yard. Member Drew stated that he would like to see the entire block -changed so as to make uniformity throughout. Member Wulff moved that in view of the surrounding conditions, that the variance be granted. The motion was seconded by Member Logan, and carried. Member Drew moved that the Commission initiate proceedings to adjust the entire block in accordance with surrounding areas, which failed for lack of a second. Opening ofFlower Street - South of Chula Vista Highlands Subdivision. Mr. Robert M. Grif in appeared before the Commission to request that they con- sider the opening of a continuation of Corte Maria Avenue South of D Street approxi- mately 2 block then running East and West to First Avenue, the Fast and West portion being in line with Flower Street. It was moved by Member Drew and seconded- by Member Halferty thqt the Secretary request Mr. Burchett to bring into the Commission, a plan for such an extension and dedication, to be studied by the City Engineer, and also to include the extending of D Street East to Hilltop Drive. Church Avenue -. Extending from F Street to (enter Street. Member Drew stated that he felt that the time had come to consider the opening of Church Avenue from F Street to Center Street. Mr. Deb'lolfe, the Councils repre- sentative to the Commission, advised them that the Council had discussed and con- sidered the opening of Church Avenue at their previous meeting.
