HomeMy WebLinkAbout1949-06-06 PC MINS MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE CHULA. VISTA PLANNING COLEISSION Held June 6, 1949 The Planning Commission met in regular session oh the above date at 7:30 P. M. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall with Chairman Davis presiding. PRESM'T: Members Davis-, Fisher, Irey, Cloyed, Welton; and Guest. Ex Officio Members Boyer and Foster. - ABSENT: None. Motion was made by Member Irey, seconded by Member Fisher, and carried, that the minutes- of the last meeting held May 2nd be approved with the exception of Part 2 under paragraph "Suggestions by Mr.- Davis"-. This part should read as follows: 'Re-zoning of the south side of Parkway from Garrett to 3rd Avenue: Mr. Davis suggested that this be re-zoned from "R-3" to 11R--2".' Grihalva Place - Tentative Map Mr, Duane G. Stafford presented a tentative map of Grihalva place, being a subdivision of a portion of lots 4, 5, and 6 of Quarter Section 138, according to San Diego Land and Town Company Map of Chula Vista. Member Melton recommended that the number of lots be reduced so as to make all the lots 55' in width. After lengthy discussion, it was moved by Member Cloyed, seconded by Member Irey, and carried that the tentative map be approved and recommended to the City Council for acceptance with the following exceptions: That it be mandatory that Vance Street be widened to 60' the same as Church Street, and that the Commission strongly urge, but not demand, that the Owners widen the lots 'on Vance Street to 551 , and also subject to the condition that the alley adjacent to lots 1 to 5 be dedicated to the City on the Subdivision Map. Zone Variance - Archie M. Montgomery Mr. Montgomery made a request for variance from the required 50' frontage for his property described as Lot. No. 9, Eitzen Tract, Westerly 881. After much dis- cussion, it was recommended that Mr. Montgomery consider moving the existing house on said Lot 9 so as to make possible a lot having a 50' frontage. The matter was continued to the next meeting. Zone Variance - Frank Manning Mr. Manning requested that a variance be granted him to enlarge the existing detached 10' x 12' room on the rear of his property to 18' x 20' and- to add a bath- room: After discussion, it was moved by Member Irey, seconded by Member Guest, and carried, that the City Attorney be instructed to draw up a resolution setting forth the written findings of facts granting this variance, it being understood that no kitchen facilities be in the new addition. Tree Removal Mr. Leslie F. Burns, 256-262 Del Mar, requested that the Black Acacia trees be removed from the parking as they are raising the side walk. - Mrs. Wettleson, 232 Church Avenue, requested that the Black Acacia trees be removed from the parking as they are raising the sidewalk. The Park Superintendent recommended that in both cases, the trees be removed. It was moved by Member Welton, seconded by Member Fisher, and carried, that the trees be removed under the usual terms of a deposit of $5.00, to be refunded when the owner replaces the trees with a suitable tree. Purchase of Books Motion was made by Member Guest, seconded by Member Welton, and carried, that two volumes of Planning the Modern City -for $12.24, be purchased for the -use of the Planning Commission and City Engineer. Frank E. Dawson Considerable discussion was given to the landscaping business being carried on by Mr. Frank E. Dawson at 711- Del Mar Avenue. The matter had been brought to the attention of Member Guest and she brought it up before the Commission. It was determined that the Commission could take no action until a request for a ° Zone Variance was made. Parking Mr. Davis brought up the question of off-street parking in the Business district. This matter was discussed by the Commission. Adjournment In view of the fact that the first- Monday in Tuly falls on a holiday, motion was made by Member Irey, seconded by Member Cloyed, and carried, that the meeting be adjourned to Tuly 11, 1949.
