COMMISSION. HELD MONDAY, MAY. ,. 1948, .at 7.30 O!CLOCK P.M.
The CorAmission met in regular session on the above date at 7.30 ol'clock
P.M., . ih the Council Chambers of the City Hall, with Chairman Davis presiding.
Members present: Davis, Fisher, Welton, Guest, Irey. Absent: Member Cloyed.
Minutes of the Regular meeting held April $.., 1948, having been prepared and
mailed to each member of the Commission, and to each member of the Council,
upon motion by Member Welton seconded by Member Irey, were approved as
prepared and mailed. Uarried.
REMOVAL OF TREE: The secretary read a letter from Mrs.Beryl W.G.Hannah of
247.�!4th .AvAvenuer .Chula Vista, requesting the removal- of an old Eucalyptus
tree from the parking.-.- Upon motion by Member Irey, seconded by Member
Guest, which carried, the request was granted, subject to recommendation
of City Engineer Foster and Park Superintendent Chester Norman, that per-
mission be given to remove the tree at the expense of Mrs.Hannah, but
that if same is not acceptable to the property owner, the city park depart-
ment would be willing to prune the dead limbs and eliminate the hazard.
Mr.Irey further suggested that there is a firm in National City who will
cut.large trees down to the stump in return for the wood, as the City of
Chula Vista do not have the equipment to cut down such a tree.
ZONE, VARIANCES: (Published at least one week previous to meeting).
Upon motion by Member Irey, seconded by Member Welton, and carried,.
Zone Variance request of Mr. and Mrs. C„V.Roberts of, -496-5th Avenue,
to remodel two bedrooms in their seven_(7). room home for rental purposes,
was granted. r,
ZONE VARIANCE Previously discussed - Mrs.Marie Hale. Mrs.Hale having
appeared.,at,the previous regular meeting held -April 5, 1948,. requesting
Zone Variance, and same having been tabled until May 3, 1948, upon motion
by Member Guest, seconded by Member Welton, and carried, the request was
granted, subject to plan submitted, which comprised an additional wash
room to existing building.
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING: Zoning of "E" Street for business, from Third
Avenue to Fourth.Avenue .East, and north and south of "Ell Street.
There being no opposition to the second Notice of Hearing published in
the Chula Vista Star April 30, 1948, City Attorney. Boyer was instructed
to prepare recommendation to council for their action, stating that the.
two public hearings held, brought no objections for the zoning of "E"
Street as specified above.
TENTATIVE MAP r Boltz Subdivision. Upon motion by Member Irey, seconded
by.:Member Welton., .and carried, the tentative map of "Boitz.Subdivision"
. as presented by Mr.Boltz who was present., was approved for Council _
recommendation., subject to sidewalks and, curb being eliminated on the
north side of Lots 14 and 15, and sidewalks only,to be eliminated on the
north side of Lot 18, with a radius of forty feet (401) instead of 50 feet
on both banjos, for the reason that the Planning' Commission finds this
to be a situation coming within Section 3 &ol of the Subdivision Ordinance,
and upon recommendation as made by City Engineer, Harold Foster, .
TENTATIVE MAP -UECKER SUBDIVISION.'NO,64.
Upon motion by.Member. Davis; seconded .by Kember Welton, and carried, "
the tentative Map of Uecker.Subdivision No.4, was approved- for recommendation
to-Council;
RECORD .OF SURVEY: Upon motion by Member Irey, seconded by Member 'Guest.1and carried
the-Record of Survey as proposed by Mr. D.C.Handley, was recommended for
Council.approval', sub jee'V'to sidewalks curb,. gutters, .and the placing of
a shoulder on Third Avenue surfacing_ between existing paving and-:gutter.
ADJOURNMENTi. Upon motion.by Member Welton, seconded by Member-Fisher,' and ;
carried, the eeting adjourned sine die.

Mr. William N.Drew appeared before the Commission to obtain their
views regarding the re—zoning of Third Avenue, between "Eli- Street and
I'D" Street, from the present zoning to a commercial zone, In
view of opposition expressed by several members of the Conmassion, as
well as several citizens in the audience, Mr.Drew was informed that he
could present his request for official action.by the Planning Commission.,
