HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-03-17 PC MINS MINUTES OF A REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE PLANNING COWISSION OF THE CITY OF CHRA VISTA, CALIFORNIA March 17, 1958 The regular adjourned meeting of the Planning Commission was held on the above date at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers at Civic Center with the following members present: Stewart, Calkins, Bendickson and Culnan. Absent: Members Byron and Armstrong. Also Present: City Attorneys Kugler and Boyer. r REQUEST FOR EXEMPTION FROM PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCE NO. 543 - Northwest Corner lst & "K" A letter was read from Mr. Oliver Underwood stating that he is again requesting relief from constructing public improvements at his property on the northwest corner of Fist and "K" Streets because he feels that a good presentation,of the facts was not made at the meeting of March 3. Mr. Underwood spoke stating that he felt he would be entitled to exemption from constructing sidewalk in this area within the meaning of the ordinance. A letter was read from the Department of Engineering stating that in their opinion there is no engineering problem and a dangerous situation will not be created upon construction of improvements. Member Culnan moved, Member Bendickson seconded and it was carried that the request for exemption be denied because no evidence was presented showing that it would create a dangerous situation or that it would be extremely impractical to install said public improvements. BROADWAY ZONING - Discussion Maps were given to the Commission showing exact land use on Broadway for the depth of each property fronting on Broadway. The Planning Commission directed that a public hearing be called for April 21st, 7:30 P.M. for the purpose of rezoning Broadway, from "C" to "L" Street from M-1 to C-25 as shown on neap. EXTENSION OF TIME ON ZONE VARIANCE A request was na de for an extension of time on the variance granted to Gibson and Dudley for a shopping center at Hilltop and Naples in Chula Vista. It was moved by Member Calkins, seconded by Member Culnan and carried that one year ex- tension of time be granted, from date of this meeting, for development of a shopping cen- ter, with the condition that all conditions of the original variance be adherred to. APPROVAL OF BUILDING SITE FOR CHURCH - Pope Pius X - Naples at Cuyamaca Plans were presented showing a proposed auditorium for the Pope Pius X Church at Naples and Cuyamaca. It was moved by Member Bendickson, seconded by Member Culnan and carried that the site be approved for additional church buildings with the condition that setbacks be complied with. - 1 - PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO ZONING ORDINANCE - Duscussion City Attorney Kugler reported on the progress of the two amendments the Commission had asked to be prepared, one having to do with prohibiting parking of automobiles within the required front yard setback and the other establishing standards for permission to construct service stations in the C-1 zone. The Commission asked that this be set for public hearing along with the Broadway zoning Public hearing and that an amendment be prepared accordingly. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned sine die.
