Agenda Item 3 —Support Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance and Repeal of Development Fees
Dear Mayor Salas and City Councilmembers:
The Pacific Southwest Association of REALTORS®strongly supports the City's proposed
Accessory Dwelling Unit ordinance and the repeal of two development fees which will go a long
way to help Chula Vista and the region to address our severe housing shortage.
Both the Accessory Dwelling Unit(ADU) and Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit(JADU)
provisions provide flexibility to property owners who want to better utilize their homes to
provide living spaces to students, seniors and others on fixed incomes to have a decent place to
live.
The ordinance includes common sense solutions to enable property owners to increase the
housing stock while maintaining parking and other zoning standards that will ensure the new
development will mitigate impacts on surrounding residents.
PSAR appreciates the City Council also providing financial relief to property owners by
repealing some of the fees that make new housing construction very hard to pencil out
financially.
Thanks to your planning staff and Chula Vista Planning Commissioners for recommending the
ADU and JADU ordinance to provide a variety of affordable housing options to Chula Vista
residents.
