HomeMy WebLinkAbout1954-11-01 PC MINS MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA _ Held Monday, November 1, 1954 The Chula Vista Planning Commission met in the Council Chamber at Civic Center at 7:30 P.M. on the above date with the following Members present: Stewart, Mohr, Farris, Harmstead, Henninger, Young. Absent: Member Trook. Also Present: Principal Civil Engineer, Johnson. APPROVAL OF MINUTES It was moved by Member Harmstead, seconded by Member Mohr and unanimously carried, that the minutes of the meeting of October 18, 1954 be approved, copies having been mailed to each member. ZONE VARIANCES Paxton Auto Electric, 590-594 "D" St., requested a variance to zone property to C-2 or C-1 use to allow the parking of cars and equipment for use'in connection with the present garage located on the corner of National Ave. and "D" St. The property is now zoned R-3. After a lengthy discussion, in which Mrs.. Rego, 119 National Ave., Mr. Hubsch, 570-76 "D" St. and Mr. Whittle, 480 Davidson St., protested the granting of the variance, it was moved by Member'Harmstead, seconded by Member Young and unani- mously carried, that the variance be granted for the reasons stated in the application, provided a six foot solid screening be erected around the property. Carlyle Warren, 288 Fifth Ave., requested a variance to -allow a small radio and T V repair shop, located in a garage at the rear of the lot, in an R-3 zone. Mr. Keezer and Mr. C. H. Gill, adjacent property omers, were in the audience and protested the granting of the variance. It was moved by Member Harmstead, seconded by Member Farris, that the request be denied for the reason that the jurisdictional facts re- quired by the Ordinance were not proved. The motion carried by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Members Harmstead, Farris, Henninger, Young, Stewart. NOES: Member Mohr, ABSENT: Member Trook. At this point, Member Trook arrived. Harry G. Moskwa, 77 Second Ave., requested a variance to occupy his premises with two single family residences, an R-2 use, in 'an R-1 zone. It was moved by Member Farris seconded by Member Young and unanimously carried, that the request be denied for the reason that the jurisdictional facts required by the Ordinance were not proved. At this point, Member Stewart left the meeting. Vice-Chairman Mohr- presided, TENTATIVE MAPS Custom Builders No. 3 - Henry Algert. It was moved by Member Farris, seconded by Member Harmstead and unanimously carried, that the Tentative Map of Custom Builders No. 3 be approved, subject to check and approval of the Engineering department. Judson Tract (to be annexed) - Henry Algert. It was moved by Member Farris, seconded by Member Trook and unanimously carried, that the Tentative Map of the Judson Tract be approved with Lots A through H as indicated, provided all streets, including the southerly half of "J" St., shall be' improved upon dedication. At this point, Member Harmstead left the meeting. FINAL MAPS Chula Vista Hills - Henry Algert. It was moved by Member Farris, seconded by Member Henninger and unanimously carried, that the Final Map of Chula Vista Hills be approved, subject to final check and approval of the Engineering department, with a 1 ft. lot at the end of Vance' Sto and provided the name of Vance St. is changed to Corte Maria Aveo Chula Vista Manor No. 2 - Harold Foster. It was moved by Member Trook, seconded by Member Farris and unanimously carried, that the Final Map of Chula Vista Manor No. 2 be approved, subject to final check and approval of the Engineering department. LETTER, - Chula Vista City School District. Vice-Chairman Mohr read a letter from Dr. J. C. Lauderbach, Superintendent, recom- mending that the Chula Vista Woman's Club be permitted the use of the basement floor of the old library building in connection with their program to assist the local school district in extended educational activities. No action was taken. LETTER - Exchangette Club of Chula Vista. Vice-Chairman Mohr read a letter from the Exchangette Club with further-,recom- mendations on the allocation of the Vista Square Housing property, No action was taken. LETTER - Chula Vista Recreation Commission, Vice-Chairman Mohr read a copy of a letter sent to the City Council from the Recreation Commission with recommendations for the future use of Vista Square Housing project. No action Yas taken. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Member Henninger, seconded by Member Trook and unanimously carried, that the meeting adjourn until Monday, November 15, 1954. r 61 Jeaaa✓C.
