HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2002-471RESOLUTION NO. 2002-471 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA PLACING THE HOUSE LOCATED AT 435 "E" STREET, THE WILLIAM ADA MONROE HOUSE, ON THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA'S LIST OF HISTORIC SITES 1N ACCORDANCE WITH MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 2.32.070(A) WHEREAS, the William Ada Monroe house is a Spanish Colonial house located at 435 "E" Street in the City Of Chula Vista (APN 565-280-03-00); and WHEREAS, staff received communication from the property owner, Ligia Brannen, requesting that the William Ada Monroe house be designated as a historical site on the City of Chula Vista List of Historic Sites; and WHEREAS, State of California Historic Eligibility Criteria requires that a site be found significant at a local, state, or national level, under one or more of the criteria for designation; and WHEREAS, the Resource Conservation Commission determined that the William Ada Monroe House meets three of the local criteria for designation because of its important relationship to a historic personage, William Ada Monroe - a prominent rancher, a telephone company troubleman, and member of Chula Vista's Board of Trustees beginning in 1914 (Criterion 2); and WHEREAS, the William Ada Monroe House also continues to exhibit distinguishing architectural characteristics (Criterion 4) and the physical integrity of the original features of the house sufficiently conveys its historical value (Criterion 6); and WHEREAS, the Resource Conservation Commission at their regular meeting on September 30, 2002 voted 4-0-0-2 (with Reid and Bensoussan absent) to reconnnend that the City Council place the William Ada Monroe House on the City of Chula Vista List of Historic Sites; and WHEREAS, the Environmental Review Coordinator has determined that this project is exempt per the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Section 15331, Class 31, Historical Resources Restoration and Rehabilitation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby approve the designation of the William Ada Monroe House, 435 "E" Street, as a Historic Site and determines that it is hereby placed on the City of Chula Vista List of Historic Sites.
