d. Fallen Heroes Banners at Chula Vista Mall. The banners were up for 30 days at
the Chula Vista Mall and are to be picked up on Friday January 19, 2018. Issue
with the size of the banners and the poles so out of the 15 banners only 8 were
hung up. Same banners will be put up next year. Banners will be stored at the
Chula Vista Police Dept. Need to revisit this topic every year.
e. State of the American Veterans Program with USC in San Diego.
Commissioner Stewart states that they need to go with the San Diego Veterans
Coalition. Stewart will get them connected and then we will be out of it. USC
needs a partnering institution and CV is not at that level. This is more appropriate
for the County of San Diego.
f. Veteran of the Year 2018. Commissioner Stewart indicated that Danny Carreon
was happy and well received at the parade. Commissioner Stewart needs someone
else help to run it and that Stewart will guide and help but not take the lead. End
of June is the deadline 90 days out the project needs to be rolled out. Needs to be
voted on by July and recognition should be done by September 11th. All submitted
to the county by Oct I".Report next month with a timeline. Commissioner Sears
will take the lead on this project.
g. Chula Vista Veterans Walk update: Commissioner Stewart took on project in
30 days but still managed to get $10,000. Funds go only to the Chula Vista
Foundation. Strike this topic from the next agenda and bring it back later in the
year. Commissioner Stewart will still take the lead on this project.
h. Veterans Activities Report: Commissioner Torres indicated there was nothing
new and everything was outdated. Claudia to make sure to put VETERANS
COMMISSION on the subject line to make email easier to find. (Capt. Sallee
stepped out 6:50 pm). Chair Mueller and Commissioner Torres would like the
members more engaged and Mueller is going to invite them to our meetings
possible quarterly. Recommendation; Stewart to send out an invite for them to
attend March or April meeting. The report should start going out to more people.
Work on it this quarter and have a good product by March.
i. Veteran's Legislative Report: Big focus on Veteran's home. Federal level there
are some mental items that needs to be looked at.
Commissioner Stewart will have more to follow next month.

Diane Howell in advance so she can add it to the newsletter. Chair Mueller would like to send
out an email blast to advise of upcoming events. No rules on supplying refreshments. Chair
Mueller will take the lead on this.
