PRESENT: Chair Madrid, Members Lopez-Gonzalez, Ahamed, Clayton, Dufresne (Chairman Madrid arrived at 4:00 p.m.) ABSENT: Helton i STAFF: Community Development Specialist I Foland, Administrative Office Specialist Hernandez EX-OFFICIO: Lembo (Present), Worth(Excused absence) 1. MSC (Clayton/Ahamed)to approve September 24, 1997 minutes (5-0-1 Helton absent). MSC (Clayton/Madrid) to excuse Ex-Officio Member Worth from the October 22, 1997 meeting due to illness (5-0-1 Helton absent). - 2. CARING NEIGHBORS PROGRAM-Ms. Char McConney, Coordinator of Caring Neighbor Program, briefly went over the services that they provide. Some services include minor home repairs, transportation;for seniors, and indoor/outdoor chores. Ms. McConney stated that the program has assisted over 600 clients last year. Volunteer hours totaled 2,600 and was equivalent to$13,000 in labor. 3. SHARED HOUSING PROGRAM-Ms. Ann Perry, Shared Housing Coordinator, briefly went over the program. !She stated that this program is a shared housing concept for participants interested in sharing their home or one who is looking to share another person's home. In addition, it can be a sharing situation for a single parent with one child. This program does a extensive background check on both homeowner and the individual wanting to share the homeowner's home. Also, it is imperative that the persons are somewhat compatible. There have been over 50 matches this year with over 50% still living together. I 4. STAFF REPORTS-Ms. Foland mentioned that the affordable housing workshop that was scheduled for October, has been rescheduled to sometime in November. A date specific has yet to be set. i 5. MEMBERS COMMENTS -Member Ahamed stated that on the last Housing Advisory Commission Meeting there';was discussion on whether mobilehome park owners accepted Section 8 in their parks. It was mentioned that most mobilehome park owners are not educated regarding the Section 8 Program. Member Ahamed brought information packets regarding Section 8 for Commission Members' reference. The packets contain information on the rental assistance program. Chairman Madrid asked Member Ahamed if the City of San Diego can do a workshop targeting mobilehome park owners to educate them on the Section 8 Program. Ex-Officio Lembo announced that Trolley Town Homes were approved by Council. MSC (Madrid/Lopez-Gonzalez) to rescheduled the regular November and December meetings and consolidate them into one meeting to be held on December 10, 1997 (5-0-1 Helton absent). 6.
