Hello, my name is Gloria Sanchez. I am a mother to 5year old daughter and 3year old son. I wanted
to tell you a little bit of my background story to help you understand where a mid-low class family is
coming from in regards to marijuana. In 2011 my husband and I got into a car accident. Due to that
accident, my husband Marcelo Sanchez was left with a 2 disc protrusion on his lower back and was
unable to do any "labor" work. He was unable to get any type of "office work" because sitting down
too long caused him pain. He began using marijuana to self medicate for the pain. After a year or so
of fighting with him because he was using "drugs" I began to do my own research, being of the
Christian religion I had to understand "marijuana" more and its medicinal side. I now fully believe in it.
I no longer consider it a drug but medicine when used correctly. In 2012 Marcelo began working at
dispensary and quickly became a manager. He was now able to provide for our family again. At some
point we decided to partner up with a close friend that had the financial resources to start our own
dispensary. That partnership quickly became sour. In March of 2016 my husband Marcelo was killed
by a hit and run driver as he was getting out of his car in front of his moms house. The driver was
under the influence of Marijuana, Alcohol, and Cocaine. I was left a widow at the age of 35 with a
then 3year old toddler and a 18month old baby. I continued running the shop to continue providing for
myself and kids (which was less than what people imagine) due to that sour partnership. Fastforward
to 2017, 1 decided to "take over" the business since my partner wanted out. In November 2017 we
recieved a notice from the city to shut down. I immediately compliedrl_wanted to do everything as
correctly as possible to try to get a license, if the city of Chula Vista ever offered one and this is where
we are at now.
We lived in bonita for about 3years and due to those financial hardships we were forced to move. Our
dream then and my dream now is to buy a home in Bonita or Chula Vista one day and raise my kids
there. I was hoping to get grandfathered in or to be able to get the opportunity to apply for a license,
but after the first meeting, I was quickly discouraged. Please, I beg you not to make it so difficult that
not even your average person like me can't even contend with these rich people out to get every
single license. Please give me and others like me an opportunity to attain this license. I hope you can
consider my story. I thank you for your time and consideration in reading this email. God bless you!
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank You,
Gloria Sanchez
