APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approval of Minutes
Recommendation: Commission approve minutes
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Guest: David Janning| Librarian II – Library is hosting an event in partnership with the VetArt.
Would like to discuss the program with the commission.
Guest: Nick Paul | Age – Friendly team would like to give a short presentation about an Oral
History project. The goal of this project is to showcase the stories of older adults in our
community and change the narrative around what it means to age.
ACTION ITEMS
a. Chula Vista Veterans Park Brick Program update. Update on collaboration
with Friends of the Park’s Veterans Brick program and Veterans Advisory
Commission.
b. Fallen Veteran Memorial at Memorial Park. Update on the two designs that
were passed around. If there was nothing by this month, strike it.
Recommendation: Commission to hear update.
c. Veteran Memorial at Bay Front Park. Update on formalized letter to city
officials. Chair Mueller with an update.
Recommendation: Commission discuss formalizing of letter
d. Fallen Heroes Banners at Chula Vista Mall. Discussed how the same banners
will be used this year and be stored at the Chula Vista Police Department. Need to
revisit this topic every year.
Recommendation: Commission hear update by Commissioner Torres.
VETERANS ADVISORY COMMISSION
e. State of the American Veterans Program with USC in San Diego. Discussed
that this program is more appropriate for the County of San Diego. USC needs a
partnering institution and CV is not at that level.
Recommendation: Commissioner discuss item.
f. Veteran of the Year 2018. Discuss some ideas that can be set up on a calendar
that will serve goals on a timeline. For recurring events such as, Veteran of the
Year and other “pop-up” occurrences.
g. Chula Vista Veterans Walk update: Strike project and bring it back at later
date.

h. Veterans Activities Report: Commissioner Torres’ report on Veterans Activities
for the month of February 2018.
Recommendation: Commission receive report.
i. Veteran's Legislative Report: Update on legislative report.
Recommendation: Commission review/discuss report.
j. Facebook Inquiry: Chrissy a resident of Chula Vista, was asking if it was
possible to name a park in honor of a Fallen Service member that lived in Chula
Vista? Her Husband CWO3 Jonathan Gibson KIA 9/22/13 Pilot of the US Navy.
