APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion made by Trustee Canedo and seconded by Trustee Kalaluhi to approve the meeting minutes from March 26, 2014. Motion carried (3-0). II. APPROVAL OF ABSENCE III. NEW BUSINESS IV. OLD BUSINESS V. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT .IX A. The Library Strategic Vision Plan and the Facilities Plan was approved by City Council on April 8th. The letter from Chair Young written on behalf of the Board of Library Trustees was forwarded to City Council as requested. B. Two public Budget Workshops are scheduled for April 29th and 30th. C. The re -cabling project at the Civic Center Branch has been completed. The project at the South Chula Vista Branch will begin on April 18th. South Branch will be closed through April 27th. D. The Otay Ranch Branch celebrated its second birthday. Since opening in April 2012, we have had over % million visitors. The Otay Friends is looking for members. 1 MINUTES BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES E. The Chula Vista Charitable Foundation hosted an event to highlight the progress of our "Paths to Civic Engagement" grant on March 27tH F. The Chula Vista Public Library Foundation's "Bon Appetit" fundraiser is on April 26th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. G. The Friends of the Chula Vista Public will be hosting a Civic Engagement Event on May 30th from 8:30 to 11:00 am. The event is open to the public and Trustees are welcome to attend. The session will be facilitated by Carl Luna, Political Analyst and Professor at USD and Mesa College. H. Some funds may be available from the Telecommunications Utilities Tax settlement. The funds must be used for library, recreation, communications and public safety. The Library requested approximately $200,000 for books, electronic magazines, and remodeling to create more study spaces. The Library has received passes from the Museum of Man for circulation to the public. VI. COMMUNICATIONS A. Friends of the Chula Vista Library - None B. ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned by Vice -Chair Mellor at 4:33 p.m. The next Board of Library Trustees meeting will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Civic Center Branch Library. 2
