CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL
Chair Young called the meeting to order at 4:04 p.m.
I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Vice -Chair Mellor and seconded by Trustee Canedo to approve the
meeting minutes from January 21, 2015. Motion carried (5-0).

II. APPROVAL OF ABSENCE(S)
A. Motion made by Vice -Chair Mellor and seconded by Trustee Canedo to approve the
absence of Trustee Hernandez from the January 21, 2015 meeting. Motion carried
(4-0-1 Hernandez abstained).
B. Motion made by Vice -Chair Mellor and seconded by Trustee Canedo to approve the
absence of Trustee Kalaluhi from the January 21, 2015 meeting. Motion carried
(4-0-1 Kalaluhi abstained).

V. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
A. GMOC Update — Revisions approved by City Council on February 17th. Library
section contained minor language change.
Chair Young asked if the City had a staffing formula. Director Waznis replied that
the State collects data from all libraries and we can use that information as
benchmarks. The GMOC has the data from the State report.

BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
Chair Young requested information on staffing at all three branches — current
staffing levels, deficiencies, adequate staffing and optimum staffing. The
information will help the Trustees prepare a position to approach City Council during
the budget process.
Trustee Hernandez requested the report to include programs and services the
Library could offer with adequate and optimum staffing levels. Trustee Hernandez
suggested inviting program participants to speak at City Council meetings, under
public comments, and say how much they enjoyed the program(s) at the Library.
Chair Young requested this item be continued at the March meeting.
B. Day in the District — Appointments Scheduled with Local Legislators:
1) Assemblymember Weber — Thursday, February 26 @ 11:00 am
2) Assemblymember Gonzalez — Friday, February 27 @ 2:30 pm
3) Senator Hueso — Friday, March 13 @ 3:00 pm
C. Valentine's Day Events — Approximately 70 people attended the dance performance
at the Otay Ranch Town Center.
D. Auditorium Renovation —Work will be completed in three phases. The audio-visual
and equipment upgrade will be paid by PEG funds. The lighting upgrade will be
paid by SDG&E grant funds. City is stilling seeking funds for the seating, carpet,
paint & door work.
E. New City Website is Up — Library is most visited department site.
F. Passport Service at The Hub — Acceptance service started on February 17th. Hours
are Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The new
appointment scheduling system is working well. We will phase out the current
scheduling system used at Civic Center and use the new system.
G. The Hub Grand Opening — Open House scheduled for March 10th from 3:00 pm to
7:00 pm. Events will include: international/travel theme, book sale, walk-in passport
service, music and entertainment, and light refreshments.
Chula Vista Public Library Foundation has committed $10,000 from this fundraising
event to help fund Sunday hours at the Otay Ranch Branch and The Hub.
H. Successful Debut of Kindergarten Boot Camp at Civic — Additional sessions will be
offered in March and April.
Computer Replacements Completed — Positive Response from Public. The WiFi
consultant has presented their proposal and work should be done by mid-April.

BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
J. Free Tax Assistance with AARP Underway — Three days a week at Civic Center
Branch and three days a week at South Chula Vista Branch.
K. "Special Order of the Day" scheduled for March 3`d City Council meeting — Friends
of the Library will be acknowledged for their $17,000 donation to the "Teen Focus"
project. Funds will support additional Tutor.com sessions (online homework help),
e -books, and teen furniture (lounge chairs and cafe tables).
L. Princess Project — Gown giveaway event is scheduled for April 18th at South Chula
Vista Branch. The event is sponsored in cooperation with Council for Youth
Empowerment and Chula Vista Altrusa International. Over 200 young ladies
selected prom dresses and accessories last year.
M. Friends of the Library Sponsoring Small "Library" at New Senior Residence —
Westmont will receive supply of books for their library.
Chair Young requested staff to track activities for seniors — to include Westmont,
Fredericka. and -Norman _Park Center.
N. Written public comments were shared with the Board.
O. Orange Park — Project is on schedule.
VI. COMMUNICATIONS
A. Friends of the Chula Vista Library - None
B. Chula Vista Public Library Foundation — Annual Bon Appetit fundraising event is
scheduled for May 2nd from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Otay Ranch Town Center.
The Foundation Sponsorship Committee is planning a "Night at the Library" event in
the Fall.

Meeting was adjourned by Chair Young at 4:59 p.m.
The next Board of Library Trustees meeting will be on Wednesday, March 18, 2015,
beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Branch Library.
