APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion made by Trustee Swanson and seconded by Vice -Chair Mellor to approve the meeting minutes from November 16, 2016. Motion carried (3-0). II. APPROVAL OF ABSENCE(S) Motion made by Chair Young and seconded by Vice -Chair Mellor to approve the absence of Trustee Hernandez from the meeting of November 16, 2016. Motion carried (3-0). III. NEW BUSINESS A. Student Success Card — Partnership with CVESD Director Waznis informed the Board that the Library is working on a new program with the Chula Vista Elementary School District. We will be issuing library cards to all in -coming Kindergarten and First Graders. The cards will be distributed along with the welcome back to school packet(s) CVESD estimates approximately 3,000 students at each of these grade levels. Additional information will be provided when the details of program are finalized. IV. OLD BUSINESS - NONE BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES V. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT A. Cenic (Broadband Project) should be completed in a couple of weeks. The public should be able to notice a difference in speed. B. Councilman Padilla is scheduled to visit the Library on January 25. C. The library is working on developing a promotional video for the Innovation Station. D. The Homeless Outreach Team is making progress around our building. They clean up Friendship Park every Tuesday. E. The CVPL Foundation's annual fundraiser "Bon Appetit" will be back at the Otay Ranch Town Center. This year's event is scheduled for April 29tH VI. COMMUNICATIONS A. Friends of the Chula Vista Library - None B. Chula Vista Public Library Foundation — None C. Public Comments — Mike Turner (miketurner511(a_gmail.com) Mr. Turner addressed the Board regarding The Value Line subscription. This is a publication that produces a one-page summary of approximately 1,500 companies — earnings, projections, company information, etc. The Library has discontinued this subscription service due to the cost of the publication and the budget cuts. Mr. Turner requested the Library to reconsider renewing this subscription. Director Waznis stated that the Library publications budget has been reduced to $40,000 per fiscal year, and decisions had to be made on best use of resources. Director Waznis stated that she will look into the cost and perhaps find a funding source. D. Written Comments — None E. Board Comments — None VII. ADJOURNMENT Chair Young adjourned the meeting at 4:53 p.m. The next Board of Library Trustees meeting will be on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Branch Library. 2
