HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-02-26 CRC MinutesX, MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION February 26, 2008 City Attorney's Conference Room 4:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Humberto Peraza, Jr., Elizabeth Scott, William Richter, Ron Kelley, Pete De Lara and Armida Martin Del Campo MEMBERS ABSENT: Egbert Oostburg (excused) STAFF PRESENT: David Miller, Deputy City Attorney; and Cheryl Ponds, Legal Assistant PUBLIC PRESENT: None The meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m. 1. Roll Call. Humberto Peraza, Chair called the meeting to order at 4:10 p.m. The roll was called and members were noted as present or absent as indicated above. i 2. Approval of January 14, 2008 Minutes Changes made to the minutes, naming Pamela Bensoussan under Public Comment. Motion was made by Elizabeth Scott, seconded by Pete De Lara and approved unanimously as amended. 2. Public Comment. None 3. New Business. a. Term Limits Humberto Peraza began the discussion regarding new language for term limits. David Miller distributed copies of new proposed language for the Commissioners to review (see attachment). The language was reviewed and a brief discussion followed. A motion was made by Humberto Peraza to accept the new proposed language, seconded by Elizabeth Scott and passed �. with a vote of 5-1. Discussion of District Elections — no discussion took place regarding this matter. It will be placed on the agenda for the next scheduled meeting. 4. Members' Comments. Humberto Peraza asked David Miller the time frame for this to be placed on the City Council Agenda. Mr. Miller explained that it would have to go on the agenda no later than July in order to be placed on the ballot. NEXT MEETING: At the call of the Chair. MEETING ADJOURNED AT 5:15 p.m. Che Ponds Secretary Charter Review Commission 2 February 26, 2008 ATTACHMENT PROPOSED TERM LIMIT LANGUAGE No person may serve more than two full terms as Council Member, or Mayor. If a person serves a partial term in excess of two years, it shall be considered a full term for the purpose of this provision. These term limits shall apply only to terms of office that begin on or after ; however, in no event shall any individual serve more than two consecutive terms.
