MEETING CALL TO ORDER 5:15 p.m. 2. MEMBERS PRESENT Commissioners Turner P , David P , Noble P , Chidester P APPROVAL OF MINUTES - The Minutes of the regular meeting of December 9, 1999 was approved. MSC (CHIDESTER/NOBLE) 4-0 To approve the Minutes 4. APPROVAL OF EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENTS 29399 Open Senior Civil Engineer 30799 Open Senior Circulation Assistant - PIT 31899 Open Environmental Projects Manager 31299 Open Maintenance Worker II 00100 Open Fire Inspector I MSC (NOBLE/TURNER) 4-0 To approve the Examination Announcements. 5. APPROVAL OF ELIGIBLE LIST 25399 Open Police Services Officer • 26099 Open Maintenance Worker I 27799 Open Assistant Engineer I/II MSC (CHIDESTER/NOBLE) 4.0 To approve the Eligible List. 6. NEW BUSINESS - NONE OTHER BUSINESS - A. Record of Decision of Employee Discipline (CSC.021) For the record, the Decision of Employee's appeal was read. B. Request approval of Extension of Probation for Veronica Orozco, Customer Service Representative submitted by Ricky Feria, Collections Supervisor. Commissioner Noble asked why it was necessary to extend the probation period. Ricky Feria stated that several changes in automation upgrades and staff re -organizations with limited training and supervision has not been the ideal learning environment for this employee. It was requested that the probation period be extended to provide the proper training and supervision that will allow the employee to pass probation. Commissioner Noble stated that extension of probation would not help the situation. Commissioner Turner stated that an employee should be able to function with any supervisor regardless. • Discussion continued regarding cash control procedures, securing cash and cash overages. Mr. Feria explained that the extension would allow him to set the parameters for the employee to follow and comply. This will allow him as a supervisor to better evaluated the employee. recommendation and the Personnel Department. Other reasons to grant the request were the employee is new, the high volume of counter trade, and basic training was lacking. MSC(CHIDESTERITURNER) 3-1(NOBLE ABSTAINED) To approve the 3 -month extension of probation for Ms. Orozco, Customer Service Representative. C. Performance Evaluation Process Staff distributed information regarding educational background that was requested from the Commission. Commissioner Noble asked what's the status of the performance appraisals? Ms. Emerson commented that the department is reviewing the information cautiously. 8. COMMUNICATIONS A. Chair's Comments — None B. Commissioners' Comments - Commissioner Chidester asked what the election status of the commission vacancy. Staff reported that the names have been forwarded to the Mayor's office. C. Staff Comments - None D. Public Comments - None 9.
