MEETING CALL TO ORDER 5:15 p.m. 2. MEMBERS PRESENT Commissioners Veal P , Triplette P , Chidester P . 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — No minutes were submitted. 4. APPROVAL OF EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENTS 25701 Open Environmental Projects Manager 26101 Open Legal Assistant. 26401 Open Computer Programmer/Analyst 26801 Open Police Report Transcriptionist MSC (CHIDESTERITRIPLETTE) 3-0 To approve the Examination Announcements. 5. APPROVAL OF ELIGIBLE LIST 20201 Open Principal Community Development Specialist 20501 Prom Senior Office Specialist 21601 Open Development Services Technician • 23601 Open Building Inspector 1/11 23601 Open Recreation Supervisor 1 24901 Open Bookstore Manager 25801 Open Senior Plans Examiner MSC (TRIPLETTEICHIDESTER) 3-0 To approve the Eligible List. 6. NEW BUSINESS - A. Appeal of Discipline by City Employee (CSC.021) scheduled for January 14, 2002. This meeting has been postponed until further notice. 7. -OTHER BUSINESS - A. Civil Service Rules Mr. Chidester requested to meet with Ms. Raskin to discuss the Civil Service RuJes. There were no objections from the Commissioners. B. Civil Service Commission Vacancy The Commission interviewed several applicants.for the vacant position on the board. Applicants were asked general questions regarding the following: availability to serve on this commission, type of experience and/or knowledge they would bring to this commission and why they are interested on serving on this board. All the applicant's interviewed well and were eligible to be considered. Chair Veal express thanks to the applicants for their time and interest in this commission. t, The following applicants were interviewed: Mr. Simon Silva Ms, Vanida Randall Mr. Salvador Saucedo Mr. Rudy David 8. COMMUNICATIONS A. Chair's Comments Chair Veal discussed the serious nature of the work they do on this Commission. There had been discussion in the past about having a Peace Officer present at all Civil Service Commission meetings for safety concerns. Chair Veal asked the Commissioners if there is any discussion on this issue. Commissioner Triplette agreed that an officer be present. Commissioner Chidester second the motion. Staff will make arrangements to have a Peace Officer present at all Civil Service Commission meetings. B. Commissioners' Comments C. Staff Comments - None D. Public Comments - Mr. Robert Penick, a member of the public, asked what the penalty is for people who lie under oath. Chair Veal replied that he is unable answer that question but would research the question with the City's attomeys and get a response to him. Ms. Emerson requested that Mr. Penick provide a written request of his concerns to the City. Once the request is received, the City will conduct an investigation. Mr. Robert Penick had several issues that he would like the city to investigate. These issues deal with his termination hearing. Chair Veal assured him that the Commission takes lying very seriously and asked that Mr. Penick submit his concerns in writing to the Commission. Chair Veal asked if the other Commissioners had anything to add. Commissioner Triplette and Chidester responded that they did not. 9. ADJOURNMENT —To adjourn to the next regular meeting of the Commission scheduled on February 14, 2002, in the HR Conference Room, 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista.
