6. NEW BUSINESS -
A. Employee Appeal of Section 1.09 (CSC.032).
Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources stated that Item 6a. was listed on the Agenda as'a placeholder in anticipation of a
response by an employee regarding separation from the City. The employee chose not to appeal.
B. Civil Service Rule Violations during Fire Engineer Exam, August 2003.
Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources stated that the issue is being handled administratively. No action is required.
7. OTHER BUSINESS -
A. Selection of New Chair &Vice Chair
Commissioner Chidgster suggested that members select the Chair.tonight. .
Vice -Chair Triplette nominated Mr. Veal for another term.
Motion to re -appoint Mr. Veal as Chair for the Civil Service Commission.
MSC (CHIDESTERISAUCEDO) 4-0 To appoint Mr. Veal as Chair. (VEAL Excused)
Commissioner Silva ask that the members maintain status quo and that Mr. Triplette remain as Vice -Chair. Commissioner Silva
. asked if all approved. Present members agreed.
Motion to re -appoint Mr. Triplette as Vice -Chair for the Civil Service Commission.
MSC (SILVAISAUCEDO) 4-0 To appoint Mr. Triplette as Vice -Chair.
t B. Dates Confirmed for Appeal of Termination by City Employee (CSC.030)
Vice -Chair Triplette asked if the hearing would proceed.
Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources said that the hearing is set and would proceed.
C. Schedule Appeal of Discipline by City Employee (CSC.031)
Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources stated that the employee has withdrawn his appeal.
D. City Communication Brochures and Flyers

8. COMMUNICATIONS
A. Chair's Comments — None
B. Commissioners' Comments - None
C. Staff Comments —
Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources answered a question regarding settlement agreements and whether or not the members
are allowed information in advance of an appeal. Ms. Raskin met with the City Attorney's Office staff on this matter and the
department will not be able provide information regarding settlement agreements prior to the Commission formulating a response.
Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources presented the members with a Staffing Report that will be provided to the members on a
monthly basis as requested.
Commissioner Chidester requested to have materials for the upcoming appeal in advance.
Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources replied that the Attorney's Office is not prepared to provide the information in advance at
this time.
Commissioner Silva asked why the members are not allow to the documents in advance.
0 Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources responded that she was not sure if it was an understanding between attorneys on the
case.
Commissioner Silva stated that Commission could have a rule that could allow all exhibits in advance before a hearing for review by
the members.
Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources stated that she would look igto the request.

9. ADJOURNMENT — To adjourn to the next regular meeting of the Commission scheduled on October 9, 2003, in the HR
Conference Room, 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista.
