MEETING CALL TO ORDER 5:15 p.m. 2. MEMBERS PRESENT Commissioners Triplette P , Chidester P , Silva P , Sadcedo P . 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - The Minutes of the regular meeting of June 10, 2004 was approved. The Minutes of July 8, 2004. The Minutes of'the regular meeting was approved with Chair Triplette abstaining. 4. Exam 04-222 Deputy City Attorney III has been submitted again per Commissioner Silva request. MSC (SILVAISAUCEDO) 3-0-1 To approve the Examination Announcements with Commissioner Silva abstaining on Exam 04-222 Deputy City Attorney III. 5. NEW BUSINESS - A. Request a Probationary Extension for City Employee submitted by Director of General Services, Jack Griffin. Jack Griffin, Director of General Services discussed reasons for requesting the extension of probation. Mr. Griffin feels that the incumbent is technically very well suited for the position. Mr. Griffin stated that they are working with the individual and have implemented a work plan for improvement. The department feels that this can be accomplished with the extension of the probation period. Additional questions were asked by Commissioners regarding probationary and demotion policies of the City. 0 MSC (TRIPLETTEISILVA) 4-0 To approve the request to extend the probation period for City employee. 7. OTHER BUSINESS - A City Newsletter and Communication Notice's No action required. B. Staffing Reports Commissioners asked -general questions regarding the hiring of the personnel and the growth of the City. 8. COMMUNICATIONS A. Chair's Comments Chair Triplette apologized for missing the meeting of July 8th. He also informed the group that he will be moving in the near future and will keep the Commission informed. B. Commissioners' Comments - None, C.' Staff Comments Marcia Raskin-, Director of Human Resources informed the Commission that Mr. James Floros has been selected to fill the vacant seat on the Commission and he should be in attendance at the next regular meeting. ' . ' Ms. Raskin informed the Commission that security during the meeting was not provided by the Police Department due to conflicting assignments. Ms. Raskin also asked the Commissioners if they felt it necessary to have security during regular Commission meetings. Commissioners discussed the possibility of utilizing reservist, Community Service Officers and Senior Volunteer Patrol. They also discussed situations that would warrant the use, of an Officer. Chair Triplette and the Commissioners feel that it is not necessary to have security personnel during regular meeting and would ask that an Officer be present during appeals or at any controversial type hearings. Ms. Raskin, Director of Human Resources said that she would relay the request to the Chief of Police. D. Public Comments - None 9. ADJOURNMENT— -To adjourn to the next regular meeting of the Commission scheduled on October 14, 2004, in the Redwood Rood, at City Hall, 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista.
