NEW BUSINESS - A. Appeal of Discipline by City Employees (CSC.038) Closed - Scheduled for September 20th and 21st. B. Appeal of Termination by City Employee (CSC.039) C. Appeal of Discipline by City Employee (CSC.040) Closed - Scheduled for August 29th and 30th. Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources discussed logistics and time frames of each appeal. Chair Silva asked if the Commissioners would receive reading materials in advance. Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources replied that both attorneys would have to agree on the contents of the information. If there is an agreement, a document binder will be delivered to the Commissioners. Chair Silva informed staff that he has had prior interactions with the representative of the appellant from the Police Department. He stated that he • does not see a conflict at this point. 0 Sharon Marshall, Assistant City Attorney stated there is no financial interest so there would not be an issue. Commissioner Floros asked who usually request that a hearing be closed to the public. Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources stated that hearings are posted as closed unless the appellant request that the hearing be opened to the public. D. Request to Extend the Recreation Supervisor III list until December 31, 2005 submitted by Buck Martin, Director of Recreation. Shauna Stokes, Assistant Director of Recreation has requested to extend the Recreation Supervisor III list until December 31, 2005 due to delays in opening new facilities. Marcia Raskin, Director of Human,Resources stated that the list contains several viable candidates with high scores. MSC (FLOROSISAUCEDO) 40 To approve the request to extend the Recreation Supervisor III list. OTHER BUSINESS -, A. City Newsletter and Communication Notices B. Staffing Reports 8. COMMUNICATIONS A. Chair's Comments — Chair Silva asked if the City continues to hire personnel from the City of San Diego. Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources statedthat departments continue to request for personnel due to the growth of the City and she stated that the City at this time does not have any difficulties filling positions. Chair Silva welcomed Commissioner Marrufo and Ms. Stevenson to the Commission and stated that he appreciates their help. B. Commissioners' Comments Commissioner Saucedo asked if the meeting could be moved to another date due to other commitment conflicts. Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources asked if the first or third Thursday, or a Wednesday would be better. Chair Silva asked staff to research to see if the commission is able to change their meeting date. Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources said that she would check to see if there are any restrictions. C. Staff Comments Marcia Raskin, Director of Human Resources welcomed Dave Maruffo to the Commission. She mentioned that Commissioner Maruffo was employed for 36 years with the City and that he would be an excellent asset to the group. Ms. Raskin also recognized and welcomed Ms. Stevenson', the next appointed Commissioner. D. Public Comments - None 9. ADJOURNMENT — (FLOROS/SAUCEDO) - To adjourn to the next regular meeting of the Commission scheduled on September 8, 2005 in the Redwood Conference Room, 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista.
