Call to Order / Roll Call Chair Al Gore; Vice -Chair Anitza Rodriguez; Commissioners Luz Camacho, Willie Harris, Muriel Kulikowski, Christine Moore, Aracely "Shelly" Rodriguez, and Jennifer Rodriguez Commissioner Valerie Attisha Director of Library & Recreation Betty Waznis, Staff Liaison Stephanie Loney Drew Cady, Art Pulse Chair Gore called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. Chair Gore welcomed new commissioners. Director Waznis introduced herself and expressed appreciation to all commissioners for their involvement on the Cultural Arts Commission. II. Approval of Minutes Motion made by Commissioner Kulikowski and seconded by Commissioner Camacho to approve the minutes from the November 5, 2012 meeting. Motion carried — abstained Harris, Moore & S. Rodriguez III. New Business Introduction of New Commissioners Willie Harris, Christine Moore and Aracely Rodriguez provided self -introductions to the Commission. IV. Old Business . A. Art Display at Courthouse — Chair Gore provided background information to new commissioners and informed them that it is an ongoing project for the Commission. Chair Gore encouraged commissioners to visit the courthouse and look at exhibit in order to provide suggestions. Commissioner Camacho stated that she saw that Don Johnson advertised on his website/Facebook page for the next exhibit. She requested a meeting with Chair Gore & Don Johnson to discuss the next display. B. Donation of Statue — Chair Gore stated that the statue is still being offered to the Olympic Training Center. He stated that he will contact Tracey Lamb and may want to do a joint presentation to City Council. Commissioner Moore asked if the Olympic Training Center had agreed to accept the statue and inquired as to the purpose of going before City Council. Stephanie stated that if the Commission would like to make presentation to Council, she would request placement of item on agenda. C. Cow Parade — Vice Chair A. Rodriguez updated new commissioners about the possibility of having a "Cow Parade" in Chula Vista. This is a • very expensive project and the commission does not know if local businesses will sponsor it. Stephanie stated that she sent emails to TAVA (Third Avenue Village Association) and the Otay Ranch Town Center, but have not received responses. Chair Gore suggested this item be put on back burner and discuss at future meeting. V. Library Staff Report A. City's Arts Master Plan — Staff has received communications from Councilwoman Bensoussan's aide informing us that Councilwoman Bensoussan will take up the Arts Master Plan project again. The item was brought to City Council in FY 2005-06 but no official action taken at that time. Director Waznis informed commission that if they are interested in assisting or provide input on this project to contact Councilwoman Bensoussan's office. Chair Gore asked Stephanie to relay to Susan Johnson that the . commission would be happy to assist. B. Update on Performing and Visual Arts Grant — The grant information and application have been posted on the Library's website and closes on • February 18tH C. Update on Gayle McCandliss Award — Program information and nomination form also posted on Library's website and closes in April. Stephanie has contacted principals and teachers of local high schools. Student nominations for the "Rising Star" category must be sponsored by a teacher. Commissioners volunteered to contact the following high schools: • Luz Camacho — Palomar • Anitza Rodriguez - Eastlake • Christine Moore — Hilltop • Jennifer Rodriguez — Olympian, Otay Ranch & Mater Dai • Muriel Kulikowski — Chula Vista • Willie Harris — Bonita Vista VI. Public Comments/Communications A. Art Pulse (website) — Presentation by Drew Cady • Mr. Cady provided information on "Art Pulse", a privately funded group creating a website to capture all forms of arts and cultures available to the public. The website will be searchable and will include all venues, activities and eventually all artists in the community. The website will be launched in the Silicon Valley area in late spring/early summer. Art Pulse would like to create similar website for San Diego County area and will be conducting a series of community forums to invite input. Adjournment Meeting was adjourned at 6:27 p.m. by Chair Gore.
