APPROVAL OF MINUTES — MSC (Flach/Virchis) 6-0 approving the minutes of November 13, 2000. 2. OLD BUSINESS A. Recruitment of new CAC Board Member — continued B. Commission use of the 18 community days at the Coors Amphitheater - The Commission discussed the issues involved in scheduling and planning the use of scheduling an event at the Amphitheater. Commissioner Virchis and staff agreed to arrange a meeting with Buck Martin, Manager, Coors Amphitheater. This item will be continued to next month's meeting. C. Performing & Visual Arts Task Force Update — 2001 The Performing & Visual Arts Fund Grant application packet was distributed. The deadline for submitting grant applications is January 12, 2001. MSC (Flach/Redo) 6-0 to receive the annual ten percent of the City's portion for the year 2000 from the Amphitheater proceeds for the use of the performing and visual arts in Chula Vista. The estimated amount is $50,997. MSC (Redo/Virchis) 6-0 to support the annual request of $2,500 for the Taste of the Arts Festival and $2,500 for Music in the Park. • 9 Cultural Arts Commission -2- January 8, 2001 MSC (Redo/Tubbs) 6-0 to purchase a booth/display for multi-purpose use of the Cultural Arts Commission. MSC (Virchis/Redo) 6-0 to explore the possibility of funding second stage bands for a maximum of $200 each. D. Downtown Arts Center status — continued. 3. NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion of CAC's vision for public art on the Bayfront — continued B. "Taste of the Arts" festival status and planning committee meeting dates — An update on the planning status of the Festival was reviewed and discussed by the Commission. C. "Sea Chanty" in Friendship Park — The art sculpture located in Friendship Park behind the Civic Center Library is in poor shape and the fountain is inoperative. MSC (Virchis/Flach) 6-0 agreed to support the removal of the Sea Chanty and replace it with another sculpture. 4. COMMITTEE REPORTS — None 5. STAFF REPORT — None 6. COMMUNICATIONS —None 7.
