HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-05-09 CAC MINS MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE '40 CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Tuesday, 5: 00 p.m. Conference Room #1 May 9, 1995 Civic Center Library CALL MEETING TO ORDER ROLL CALL MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Scott, Commissioners Cernitz, McAllister, Pelayo, Souval, Virchis and Wheeland MEMBERS ABSENT: Commissioner Hirsch STAFF PRESENT: Staff Liaison Gates and McMartin 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES • MSC [Virchis/Wheeland] 5-0 (Pelayo and Souval were not present yet, Hirsch absent) to approve the minutes of April 11, 1995. 2. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Action a. Eastlake Performing Arts Center - City staff is continuing to meet with the School District to finalize the draft agreement. Non-Action a. Advocacy/Budget Supplementals - The Commission will be notified of the Budget Hearing dates. b. Commission Participation at Cultural Arts Festival The Commissioner reviewed Commission booth details. They were asked to sign up for booth coverage times at the Festival. Cultural Arts Commission 2 May 9, 1995 Meetings Minutes 3 . NEW BUSINESS Action a. Approval of 1995-96 Work Plan The Commissioners held their annual retreat on April 29. A draft 1995-96 Work Plan was distributed. The Commissioners were asked to review and submit any suggestions or comments to Chair Scott. b. Nominations for 1995-96 Officers The term of Chair and Vice Chair expires June 30. The Commissioners were asked to recommend nominations of new officers. Commissioner Cernitz nominated Vice Chair McAllister for the Chairperson position. Mr. McAllister accepted the nomination. Commissioner Virchis nominated Commissioner Pelayo for the position of Vice Chair. Mr. Pelayo accepted. The election will be held at next month' s meeting. • Non-Action - None 4. Sub-Committee Reports McCandliss Sub-Committee - The annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for May 18 at the San Diego Country Club. The Gayle McCandliss Awards will be given. Commissioner Virchis will be receiving one of the awards. MOSAIC Calendar - Information for the next Calendar is being formulated. Festival Sub-Committee - Cultural Arts Coordinator Shaw is busy finalizing the Festival activities. 5. STAFF REPORT - The Otay Ranch Project will be scheduling a presentation to the Commission. 6. COMMUNICATIONS a. Oral Communications - None b. Written Communications - None Chair Scott read a letter of resignation from • Commissioner Amira Walker. The letter will be forwarded to the City Clerk's office to proceed with posting a Cultural Arts Commission 3 May 9, 1995 Meetings Minutes vacancy notice. C. Commissioners' Remarks - The future regularly scheduled Commission meetings will be moved to the Conference Room #1 at the Civic Center Library. Chair Scott reported she will be unable to attend the next meeting. The annual Bonitafest has been cancelled because of a lawsuit from last year' s Festival. The Commission is interested in the status of the role they will play in the Design Review Committee process.
