REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

CALL MEETING TO ORDER

MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair McAllister, Commissioners Cernitz,
Hirsch, Scott, Souval, and Wheeland
MEMBERS ABSENT: Commissioners Pelayo and Virchis
STAFF PRESENT: Staff Liaison Gates, McMartin and Shaw
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MSC [Cernitz/Souval] 5-0 (Hirsch was not present yet) to
approve the minutes of July 11, 1995 with one correction.
Commissioner Scott was not included in the roll call, either
present or absent.
2. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Action
a. Summer Meeting Schedule - MSC [Souval/Cernitz] 5-1
(Hirsch opposed) to waive the regularly scheduled
Commission meeting in August and reconvene on September
12, 1995.
Non -Action
a. FY 1995-96 Budget -
1. Line -Item Budget - The Council accepted the
Commission's recommendations for the 10% operating
budget cuts for Fiscal Year 1995-96. Staff will
provide the Commission with copies of the final
Commission budget.
2. Supplemental Budget Request - The request to
increase the Cultural Arts Coordinator position to
a full-time position was not approved. The request
for funding for the NALLA Conference was approved.

MSC [Cernitz/Souval] 6-0 to move this item from
Non -Action to an Action Item. MSC
[Souval/Wheeland] 6-0 to request the Council to
allow the $1,400 budgeted for the NALLA Conference
be transferred for the MOSAIC Calendar. Ms. Souval
will prepare the justification.
3. Status of "Commission" Trust Account - The Trust
Account balance has not been determined. There are
still some outstanding expenses from the Music
Festiva'1 Competition.
b. Eastlake Performing Arts Center - Joint Use Agreement -
Nothing to report.
3. NEW BUSINESS - None
4. Sub -Committee Reports
The Third Annual Music Festival was very successful with 90
participants.
The Commissioners scheduled dates for manning the booth at the
Music in the Park concerts. Chair McAllister volunteered to
update the survey form for distribution at the concerts.
5. _STAFF REPORT
Cultural Arts Coordinator Felicia Shaw regretfully resigned
her position with Chula Vista effective July 14, 1995. Ms.
Shaw accepted a full-time position with the City of San Diego
Arts & Culture. The Commissioners thanked her and wished her
well.
6. COMMUNICATIONS
a. Oral Communications - None
b. Written Communications - None
C. Commissioners' Remarks - Friends of the Arts are meeting
July 30 at La Bella Restaurant.
Meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m. to the next regularly scheduled
meeting of September 12, 1995 at 5:00 p.m.
