SHORT TERM GOALS
FOR THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
FOR THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
1. Secure funding and support system for the MOSAIC Bi-Monthly
Newsletter.
2. Schedule two major events to celebrate the quality of life in
the City of Chula Vista. Schedule one in the Fall and one in
the Spring.
3 . Secure funding for a full-time Cultural Arts Coordinator.
4. Have an active role in the decision-making for the programming
of the MCA Amphi-Theatre on the given dates to Chula Vista
5. Secure funding and the appropriation of funds for the MCA
Amphi-Theatre
6. Create a committee system where each committee is headed by
one Commissioner
7. Create a stronger partnership with Southwestern College,
Sweetwater Union High School District and the elementary
schools of Chula Vista
8. Have a Commission representative report to the City Council
once a month
9. Have more visibility in the community

CALL MEETING TO ORDER
ROLL CALL
MEMBERS PRESENT: Vice Chair Virchis, Commissioners McAllister,
Russell, Scott and Wheeland
MEMBERS ABSENT: Chair Pelayo, Commissioners Cernitz, Salgado
and Souval
STAFF PRESENT: Staff Liaisons Gates, McMartin and Todd
Vice Chair Virchis introduced and welcomed the newly appointed
Commissioner Dr. Barry Russell.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - MSC (Wheeland/McAllister) 5-0 to
approve minutes of September 10, 1996.
2. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Action
a. Executive Committee Goals & Objectives
The Executive Committee met and developed short term
goals for the Cultural Arts Commission. The list was
- distributed to the Commissioners for their review.
Each goal was discussed. These goals will be sent to
all the Commissioners for their review and comments.
Non-Action - None
3. NEW BUSINESS
ACTION - Port District - This item has been postponed. A
tentative date of October 29, 1996 has been set. The
Commissioners will be notified when this item is scheduled.

4. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS - None
5. STAFF REPORT -
Ms. McMartin reported Author's Day presented by the Chula
Vista Library and Friends of the Library held at the South
Chula Vista Library on October 5, 1996 was a huge success
with over 800 people attending.
Arts Coordinator Todd distributed 11101 Things You Can Do To
Celebrate NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES Month during October.
Approximately 45 letters were sent to various associations
and companies requesting donations for EXPO 97.
6. COMMUNICATIONS
a. Oral Communications - None
b. Written Communications - None
C. Commissioners' Remarks - Commissioner Russell announced
the San Diego Opera will be performing October 8, 1996
at 7:00 p.m. at Southwestern Junior College.
Meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m. to the next regularly scheduled
meeting of November 12, 1996 at 5:00 p.m.
