HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-04-08 CAC MINSL� MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. Conference Room #1 April 8, 1997 Civic Center Library CALL MEETING TO ORDER ROLL CALL MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Pelayo, Commissioners McAllister, Kelley, Russell, Salgado, Scott, Souval, and Wheeland MEMBERS ABSENT: Commissioner Virchis STAFF PRESENT: Staff Liaison Gates, McMartin and Todd Chair Pelayo welcomed and introduced the newly appointed Commissioner, Pat Kelley. Ms. Kelley has served for three years and is presently serving on the City's Design Review Committee. 1. Approval of Minutes - The minutes of the March 11, 1997 meeting will be available for approval at the May meeting. 2. Unfinished Business Action a. Development of Proposed Art Selection Policy - MSC (Wheeland/Souval) 8-0 to continue this item to the next meeting. The Commissioners will receive a boiler plate copy based on Seattle's public art policy to review and make any changes. b. Commission Goals & Objectives - MSC (Wheeland/Souval) 8-0 to table this item until the next meeting. Non -Action - a. FY 96-97 Budget Update - The 96-97 Cultural Arts Commission Budget has remaining available funds in the advertising account of approximately $745.00. fo MSC (Souval/Wheeland) 8-0 to utilize these funds by 10 June 30, 1997 for: t LI s Cultural Arts Commission 2 April 8, 1997 Meeting Minutes 1) Printing Music Festival Programs 2) Take photos of the Chula Vista Expo b. Silent Auction - EXPO 197 - A training meeting is scheduled for April 9 at 4:30 p.m. in the City Attorney's Conference Room. The EXPO is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, at Marina View Park. Mr. Todd requested the Commissioner's assistance in the Silent Auction. 3. New Business Action - None Non -Action a. City Funding - Music Competition - The Council approved $200 from the Contingency Fund to support the Music Competition. Friends of the Arts and Women's Club also made donations. 2,000 flyers were sent to the schools. The competition is scheduled for May 17. The recital will be held May 18 at the Chula Vista Main Library. b. McCandliss Memorial Fund Donation - Southwestern College - The benefit performance received and made a donation of $200 to the McCandliss Memorial Fund. 4. Sub -Committee Reports - None 5. Commissioner's Remarks - Mr. Pelayo invited the Commissioners to the attend the 27th Chicano Park Anniversary on April 19, 1997.
