Staff Present: McMartin, Todd, Palmer, Gates
Minutes from 6-8-98 approved - MSC (Gore/McCallister) 5-0 with Russell, Flach, and Curd
abstaining since they did not attend the meeting
Election of new officers: Wheeland and Gore elected at Chair and Vice -Chair, respectively
8-0 (no motion was made)
Trust Account Consolidation: Continued to next meeting on staff `s request
Port Art Proposal: Introduction of guests at the meeting: Mayor Shirley Horton; Jeri
Vanderpool, City's Representative to the Port Art Committee; Catherine
Sass, Port's Art Coordinator
Sass presented conceptual plan and conceptual sketches of potential art
components that could be installed at Bayside Park. Highlights of the plan
9 were distributed to Commissioners.
Commissioners discussed the plan in detail, and Mayor Horton made
several comments throughout the discussion. Sass fielded a number of
questions from the Commissioners
MSC (Russell/Virchis) 4-3, to accept the recommendation of the Port
District to go forward with future discussion (with the City) on the
Olympic Park, including details regarding sponsorship, location, possible
use of the current art projects, and to include City planning. Voting in
favor of the motion: Virchis, Russell, Gore, Flach. Voting in opposition of
the motion: Wheeland, Curd, McCallister.
Chair Virchis suggested that a Commission sub -committee be formed to
work with the Port District on this project.
Re -alignment of Staff. Director Palmer announced that Ric Todd will now be reporting
directly to Nora McMartin, who will continue to be the staff liaison
to the Cultural Arts Commission. John Gates will no longer attend
meetings unless specific topics require him to do so.
