HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-01-11 CAC MINSCJ • MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Monday, 5:00 p.m. Conference Room #1 January 11, 1999 Civic Center Library CALL MEETING TO ORDER -ROLL CALL MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Gore, Commissioners Clement, Curd, Flach, Molina, Russell, Vanderpool, Virchis MEMBERS ABSENT: Commissioners Tubbs STAFF PRESENT: Staff Liaison McMartin 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - MSC (Curd/Vichis) 7-0 to approve the minutes of December 14, 1998. 2. 'OLD BUSINESS - a. A Taste of the Arts by the Bay Community Planning Meetings - January 13 and January 25 at 3:30 p.m. Civic Center Library - The Commissioners were encouraged to attend the scheduled planning meetings. b. Coors AmphiTheater/second tour - The tour has not been scheduled to date. C. Olympic Park Proposal - Nothing to report. d. Performing Arts Committee - Staff has been discussing with the Mayor the status of the Performing Arts Committee. e. Business Cards - Not printed to date. f. San Diego National & International Black Film Festival - February 26-28, 1999 A draft letter addressed to the Mayor was distributed for the Commission's review. The letter requested the Mayor and Council to endorse the Black Film Festival. MSC (Virchis/Curd) 8-0 to approve the letter as corrected. g. Letter to welcome new council members - Chair Gore will follow up with Commissioner Tubbs regarding the status of the letter. • h. CAC Calendar - The bi-monthly MOSAIC Newsletter includes an event calendar. The Chula Vista Regional Events 1999 calendar was distributed. S. COMMUNICATIONS a. Oral Communications - None x b. Written Communications letter from Marco Polo Cortez, San sDiego sion rHispanica Chamber of Commerce. The letter addressed the First Annual Mariachi Festival. The Festival is scheduled for September 15, 1999 at the Coors AmphiTheater. The Cultural Arts Commission is asked to endorse the event. MSC (Virchis/Curb) 8-0 to contact Mayor Horton with the possibility of a joint fund raiser for the production. C. Commissioner's Remarks - Commissioner Russell invited the Commissioners to attend the All Women's Mariachi Band on January 21, 1999 at Southwestern College Mayan Hall. The San Diego County/Tijuana Music Festival is scheduled for January 25, 1999 at Lyceum Theater, Downtown San Diego. Commissioner Virchis invited everyone to be his guest and attend the annual Martin Luther King breakfast at Golden Hall at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Janaury 18, 1999. The Commission agreed to send a get well card to Linda BOUti-1, Eriends.,.of the Arts. 6.
