HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-01-10 CAC MINSa MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Monday, 5:00 p.m. Conference Room #1 January 10, 2000 Civic Center Library CALL MEETING TO ORDER -ROLL CALL MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Gore, Commissioners Flach, Quintana, Tubbs, Vanderpool and Virchis MEMBERS ABSENT: Commissioner Clement and Molina STAFF PRESENT: Staff Liaison McMartin 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - MSC (Virchis/Flack) 5-0 approving the minutes of December 13, 1999. 2. OLD BUSINESS a. Taste of the Arts by the Bay - The Commissioners received and discussed the artist/vendor application form for the Taste of the Arts by the Bay Visual and Performing Arts Festival scheduled for April 8, 2000. The Commissioners will be notified of the next Festival workshop/meeting. b. Performing & Visual Arts Task Force Workshop - The Council approved the Performing & Visual Arts Fund Grant Award Process. Two technical workshops are scheduled on January 20 and January 22, 2000. Grant application packets may be picked up at either of the workshops or from the Office of Cultural Arts. The Commissioners received the guidelines for the grant announcement. The deadline for submitting a grant application is February 11, 2000. C. California Assembly of Local Arts Workshop - The Commissioners were invited to attend the workshop for January 14, 2000 at the South Chula Vista Library. d. Update on Olympic Parkway - The Olympic Parkway groundbreaking ceremony was held on December 16, 1999. e. MSC (Flack/Tubbs) to appropriate funds to amend the Commission budget from $250 to $275 for annual membership dues for several art affiliated agencies. f. San Diego National & International Black Film Festival - The Third Annual San Diego Festival is scheduled for 40 February 25-27, 2000 at the Regal Theaters in Rancho del Rey. San Diego Latino Film Festival - The Festival is scheduled for March 7-12 at the Cinema Star Theaters on Third Avenue. h. Commission Vacancy - The Commissioners were reminded of the vacancy and discussed and suggested several potential applicants. 3. NEW BUSINESS - a. " A Gyotaku Exhibition" by Cherry Sweig will be presented at the South Chula Vista Library Galeria from January 7 -February 17, 2000. 4. Committee Reports A. Gayle McCandliss - Commissioner Flach forwarded the files and information to Ric Todd. Chair Quintana and Commissioner Flach will schedule a meeting with Mr. Todd. B. Music Competition - The Commissioners were asked for • suggestions to appoint a chair. 5. Staff Report - No report. 6. COMMUNICATIONS a. Oral Communications - None b. Written Communications - None C. Commissioner's Remarks - Commissioners Virchis requested to be excused from the February and March, 2000 meetings. Chair Gore reminded the Commissioners to complete their surveys they received on suggestions for future Commission ideas. d. Friends of the Arts Remarks - None e. Port Commission Report - None 7.
