Susan Carrillo and Ron Jermyl — Proposed Public Art Project
Susan and Ron are part of the Labyrinth Project Team that is presenting a
community public art project for Bayside Park. Susan is an arts advocate, a
resident of Bonita, and president of BBPA. Ron is a local artist and a Ramona
resident. The project will cost more than $200,000 and Southwestern College
Foundation has agreed to receive and disburse funds raised until the Labyrinth
Project is completed. Fundraising will be continual with support from
community partners added to help fund the endeavor. Please refer to the
handout for further description and details on the art piece.
4. Staff Updates:
a. Taste of the Arts 2004
It was a very successful event; the survey result numbers are high; no
estimate on the attendance number, maybe around 5,000.
b. Taste of the Arts 2005
Scheduled for Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Bayside Park from 10:00 am to
500 pm. The San Diego Symphony will return to perform.
Observations from 2004 event that can be improved/changed for 2005:
• More freeway signage, larger and sooner, use archway money for this
expense;
• Rent the double-decker bus to transport people from the parking lot to
the entrance of the festival;
• Sell ad space on outside of the bus (Commissioner Gore knows the
owner);
Respectfully submitted,
• Create a promotional DVD to give to potential sponsors.
Commissioner Knowlton has all the equipment to produce a DVD and
has volunteered his time to help with this project if the commission
decides to produce the DVD.
c. Cultural Arts Brochure
Ric has two boxes of brochures left. The Friends will write the checks for
the brochure expenses. Ric will also invite Ian Siso to the next meeting to
present him with a check and letter for his portfolio; the staff is asked to
write the letter and format so each commissioner can sign, and create five
originals to be given to Ian.
d. Visual & Performing Arts Grants
Thirty applications have been turned in. A total of $50,000 is available for
distribution, with requests in for $70,000.
e. Music In The Park, summer concert series 2004

will be on Saturdays, Sundays, and also Thursday evenings in July at
