CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

1. Call to Order/ Roll Call
Chair Redo called the meeting to order at 5:35pm

• 2. Approval of Minutes — Commissioner Cornell moved and McGlade seconded approval of
minutes for the November 8, 2004 meeting. The motion was carried.
Commission Cornell moved and McGlade seconded approval of minutes for the
November 15, 2004 meeting. The motion was carried.
3. Old Business
a. Report on Bay Front Development — Commissioner Cornell
Commissioner Cornell suggested that any or all Cultural Arts Commissioners
attend a public meeting=for the Bay Front Development on December 15, 2004 at
the Chula Vista Women's Club.
b. Report on Urban Core Development — Commissioner Cornell, Staff Todd
Commissioner Cornell again suggested that the voices of the Commission along
with citizens needed to be heard regarding this development and everyone was
urged to attend any public meetings.
c. ,-Report on Chula Vista Public Library Foreign Film Festival — Commissioner
Knowlton
Discussion regarding the films for the festival took place. Commissioner
Knowlton was very enthusiastic about the festival and listened to various
suggestions regarding publicity and concessions.
• 4. Committee Reports
Yuletide Parade — It was noted that the weather was chilly but everyone had fun at the
annual parade.
5. Staff Updates
a. Chula Vista's Taste of the Arts
Todd advised that everything but the Agua Dulce Stage had been booked and a
new sponsor gift of $1,000 had been received from Sun Road Auto. Reinhart
distributed vendor flyers and sponsor packets and it was noted that all letters to
vendors and artists had been sent out. ' Out of 30 featured artists asked, 21 had
already signed up. A request for the flyers to be added to the City website was
made.
b. Performing & Visual Arts Task Force
Reinhart noted that a City representative is needed.
c. Arts Master Plan process
A draft version of a "Request for Proposal" was distributed.
6. New Business
a. McCandliss Award — Discussion regarding the raising of additional funds for the
McCandliss award was held, not for just this year but for subsequent years as
well. Commissioner Gore suggested some type of raffle or auction and it was
noted that the Commission could not do this; it would need to be done possibly by
the Friends of the Arts or Friends of the Library. The VIP reception is to be held
May 5, 2005 at the CV Women's Club
b. Public Art Committee — Notices for applications will be posted in January.
7. Oral Communications
Melody Cernitz, Port Representative, discussed the Port's public policy for Public Art
with the Commission. It was noted from Commissioner Cornell that more coordination
between the art groups, Port staff and City staff was needed.
8. ADJOURMENT — The meeting was adjourned by Chair Redo at 7:1 Opm. The next
Cultural Arts Commission meeting will be held at 5:30PM on January 10, 2005 in the
Library Conference Room of the Civic Center Library. Before leaving, Commissioners
were requested to draw up a short biography and submit it to staff.
