1. Call to Order/ Roll Call

2. Introduction of New Commissioners and Secretary
Commissioner Redo introduced new Commissioners Ron Bolles and Tiffany Vinson and
new staff Secretary Marylyn Noguera.
3. Old Business
a. Report on Bay Front Development & Urban Core Development — Cornell
Commissioner Cornell summarized recent activities of both efforts. The Citizen's
Advisory Committee of the Bayfront Development project has concluded work.
Urban Core Development efforts are awaiting the adoption of the General Plan
Update, anticipated in December 2005.
4. Committee Reports
b. Public Arts Subcommittee — Port Banner Project — Todd
Staff member Todd summarize current project as follows:
■ 250 "Call for Artists" Requests for Sketches sent out
■ Up to 30 artists will be chosen to design banners — The goals of the project are
both Directional (finding way to CV Bayfront) and artistic
■ $18,500 grant from the Port of San Diego is funding the project
■ Closing date for sketches is: End of October

5. Staff Updates
a. Taste of the Arts
• Staff members Todd and Reinhart updated the Commission on sponsorship packets
and artist contracts. McCandliss Awards and VIP Reception is tentatively scheduled
to take place on May 11, 2006; site TBD.
b. Arts Master Plan Update
Staff member Reinhart advised that the Citizen's Advisory Committee meeting will
be held on October 24, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. in the Police Department Community
Room. The AMP Consultants will reveal a draft of the plan to the committee and
seek their input. There will eventually be a joint meeting of the City Council and
the Cultural Arts Commission. It will take place during a regularly scheduled
Council Meeting.
c. Grant Application Process Deadline Changes
Staff members Todd and Reinhart advised tharthe*grant application deadline would
be January 31, 2006.
6. New Business
a. Appointment of new member to Public Art Sub -Committee
• Motion was made (Commissioner Cornell) to appoint Virginia Martinez as a new
member of the Public Art Sub -Committee, seconded by Redo. Discussion followed
and Martinez was unanimously elected.
b. Election of Commission Chair and Vice -Chair
Motion was made (Knowlton) to elect Commissioner Redo as Chair and
Commissioner Cornell as Vice -Chair for the July 1, 2005 -June 2006 year, seconded
by Bolles. Motion carried unanimously.
7. Oral Communications
Commissioner Cornell presented Commissioner Redo a Council Certificate of
Appreciation.
Commissioner Knowlton reminded everyone of the Library's current Wednesday night
Film Festival.
8. Adjournment
Adjournment was made at 6:50 p.m.
The next Cultural Arts Commission meeting will be held at 5:30pm on Monday,
November 14, 2005 in the Library Conference Room of the Civic Center Library.
