CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

2. Approval of Minutes

Motion was made/seconded (Cornell/Knowlton) to approve the minutes of the November
14, 2005 meeting. Motion was carried.
3. Committee Reports
a. Consideration of Recommendations from Public Art Sub -Committee — Port Banner
Project — Redo/Todd
The Public Art Sub -Committee held a meeting on November 14, 2005 to select the
designs for the Port Banners. There were forty-nine submissions: twenty-two were
selected and there are five alternates. The selections will be brought to the Port and
City Council and upon approval, a collective meeting will take place with the chosen
artists. Motion was made (Redo) to approve the selections. Commissioners Bolles
and Knowlton seconded/moved to approve. Motion carried.
4. New Business
a. Starlight Yule Parade - Vinson
The Cultural Arts Commission is officially participating in the parade that will be
held on Saturday, December 3, 2005. Commissioners Redo, Smith, Bolles and
Vinson will be participating. South Bay Volkswagen is providing a Volkswagen Bug
to use in the parade route.

held at 5:30pm on Monday, January 9, 2006 in the Library Conference Room of the Civic
Center Library.
5. Staff Updates
a. Taste of the Arts - Reinhart
Reviewed the summary of contracts received and participating sponsors. Added a
sponsor for the "Art of the Written Word". Approximately 150 Food Vendor
applications were sent out today.
b. Arts Master Plan process — Reinhart
A revised draft of the plan should be ready by December 14, 2005 and prior to the
joint meeting with the City Council, which will be held on January 24, 2006. The
Council will likely have a light agenda for their regularly scheduled meeting, adjourn,
and reconvene as a joint meeting to discuss the plan with the Cultural Arts
Commission. Mary Salas will introduce the plan, invite the public for input, council
members will give their feedback and commissioners will bring forth their comments.
Staff will then take the feedback and craft a fmal draft. Telephone surveys regarding
prioritization are recommended.
6. Oral Communications
Melody Cernitz is seeking feedback on the public art piece that is on loan at the Laurel
Street triangle. The loan has been renewed for another year. -It can be purchased,
returned, or the loan may be renewed again. Melody also mentioned that her term with
the Port's Public Art Committee will be up in October 2006 and advised the Commission
to recommend to the Mayor a replacement for her.
Commissioner Cornell mentioned that a meeting on the Chula Vista General Plan Update
will be held on December 8, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. A City
Council Public Hearing will take place on December 13, 2005 at 6:00 p.m.
Staff member Todd mentioned that the Chula Vista Arts Guild is hosting a reception for
their current exhibit at the South Chula Vista Library Branch on December 2, 2005 from
3:00 p.m. — 5:00 p.m.
Staff member Reinhart reminded the Commissioners the meeting scheduled for
December 12, 2005 is canceled.
Adjournment was made at 6:19 p.m. The next Cultural Arts Commission meeting will be
held at 5:30pm on Monday, January 9, 2006 in the Library Conference Room of the Civic
Center Library.
